WHERE THE DETAILS PROTECT THE BOTTOM LINE.

TAX COMPLIANCE IS MISSION CRITICAL. THE ANALYST BEHIND IT SHOULD BE TOO.

At DuraServ, precision in tax isn't a back-office function — it's a competitive advantage.

DuraServ is looking for a Tax Analyst (Indirect) who brings technical depth, regulatory fluency, and the analytical precision to keep a multi-state, multi-jurisdiction organization fully compliant and audit-ready.

Tax Analyst (Indirect) | Finance & Accounting | Coppell, TX | On-Site

Reports to the Tax Director | No Planned Business Travel

This Role Is About Accuracy, Impact, and Getting It Right Every Time.

DuraServ is a national leader in commercial dock and door solutions, operating across nine U.S. regions in an industry where construction-related sales and use tax laws vary widely by state, county, and project type. As the company grows — including through acquisitions — the accuracy and agility of our indirect tax function is non-negotiable.

The Tax Analyst (Indirect) sits at the center of that function. You'll collect, reconcile, and analyze tax data across sales tax, use tax, and property tax obligations, coordinate data delivery to our external compliance partners, maintain exemption certificates, support audits, and serve as the internal subject matter expert on construction-related tax requirements across all U.S. jurisdictions where DuraServ operates.

You'll also administer Avalara — ensuring the system is properly configured, calculating correctly, and integrated seamlessly with our ERP — and partner closely with accounts payable and billing to make sure taxes are applied correctly from transaction through accrual.

This is a high-responsibility role on a lean, expert finance team. The work you do directly impacts the financial accuracy of the organization and its ability to withstand scrutiny at audit.

What You'll Do

Manage Compliance and Reporting

  • Collect, reconcile, and analyze tax data across sales tax, use tax, and property tax obligations — and coordinate its timely delivery to external compliance partners responsible for preparing and filing the company's returns
  • Prepare and review tax journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain deep, current knowledge of construction-related sales and use tax laws and documentation requirements across the U.S. — and provide technical guidance to internal teams navigating complex jurisdictions
  • Review, validate, and maintain customer exemption certificates and tax documentation to ensure proper tax treatment at every transaction

Support Audits and Cross-Functional Partners

  • Gather and prepare audit-ready documentation, working closely with internal teams and external auditors to support tax audits with accuracy and efficiency
  • Partner with accounts payable and billing to verify that taxes are applied correctly, that sales and use tax accruals are accurate, and that appropriate supporting documentation is maintained and accessible
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for internal stakeholders who need guidance on indirect tax implications — translating complex tax requirements into clear, actionable guidance for non-tax professionals

Administer Technology and Research

  • Administer and maintain Avalara tax automation software — ensuring proper system configuration, accurate tax calculation, and reliable integration with ERP systems
  • Conduct tax research to stay current with evolving federal, state, and local tax laws, assess their impact on DuraServ's operations, and proactively communicate relevant changes to the team

Who You Are

You understand that in indirect tax, accuracy is the job — and you've built the systems, habits, and professional instincts to deliver it consistently.

  • Analytically precise — you reconcile complex data sets, identify discrepancies, and don't let a number pass through without understanding why it is what it is
  • Regulatory fluent — you stay current on multi-state and multi-jurisdictional indirect tax law, especially as it applies to construction and service industries, and you know what questions to ask when requirements are unclear
  • Technologically capable — you're comfortable in Avalara, ERP environments, and Microsoft Excel at an advanced level; you leverage tools to work smarter, not harder
  • A clear communicator — you can translate technical tax requirements into plain language that accounts payable, billing, and field leadership can understand and act on
  • Accountable and confidential — you manage sensitive financial data with the discretion and ethical judgment that high-stakes compliance work demands
  • Deadline-driven — you manage multiple concurrent obligations without dropping a deliverable, and you know how to prioritize when business needs shift

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field — or equivalent experience in lieu of formal education
  • 3+ years of experience in indirect tax compliance, including sales tax, use tax, and multi-jurisdictional tax requirements
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel for data analysis, reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax requirements to non-tax professionals clearly and accurately

Preferred

  • CPA or CMI (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation) certification — or active pursuit of either
  • Experience with Avalara or comparable sales tax automation software
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and tax module integrations
  • Background supporting tax audits and preparing audit-ready documentation
  • Experience in a construction, services, or related industry environment where multi-state sales and use tax complexity is common

What's in It for You

DuraServ invests in people who bring technical depth and professional accountability to high-stakes financial work.

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, and 401K with company match
  • Company-provided life insurance, short-term disability
  • Direct exposure to multi-state indirect tax compliance in a growing, acquisition-driven national company
  • A lean finance team where your technical expertise is visible and your contributions matter
  • A stable, on-site corporate environment with the scope to grow your tax career alongside the business

A Direct Note to the Right Candidate.

Tax compliance in a multi-state, construction-driven company is not a simple task. The laws vary, the documentation requirements shift, and the margin for error in an audit environment is thin. We're not looking for someone who gets by — we're looking for someone who gets it right.

If you've built your career on analytical precision, regulatory fluency, and the kind of professional integrity that earns trust in a finance function — this is the role where that work gets recognized.

Where the details protect the bottom line. At DuraServ, that's the standard — and the opportunity.

APPLY NOW — Tax Professionals Who Execute at a High Level Wanted.

Hit Apply. Tell us which tax software you know best, the most complex multi-state compliance situation you've navigated, and how you've helped a finance or operations team understand a tax issue that wasn't straightforward.

Please note: This is NOT a remote or hybrid role. This position is based on-site at DuraServ Corporate in Coppell, TX.
