About you:

You are an experienced Import and Export Manager who would oversee production processes, with manufacturing, and people skills in La Vega.

Sakira Manufacturing Company is a leading manufacturer dedicated to excellence, innovation, and quality. With expanding operations in La Vega and Santiago, we are looking for a highly organized and dynamic Import and Export Manager to oversee and optimize all aspects of our international shipping, customs compliance, and supply chain activities.

Position Overview:
The Import and Export Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the company’s import and export processes to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective operations. This role will collaborate closely with suppliers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal departments to ensure the smooth movement of goods across borders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all import and export activities, including documentation, customs clearance, transportation, and logistics.

  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs laws, and shipping requirements.

  • Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other vendors.

  • Coordinate with procurement, production, and warehouse teams to align shipping schedules and inventory needs.

  • Prepare and manage shipping documentation (bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, etc.).

  • Monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery and resolve any issues related to delays, customs holds, or transportation problems.

  • Manage duty payments, tariffs, and trade agreements to minimize costs and maximize operational efficiency.

  • Stay updated on changes in international trade regulations and advise the company accordingly.

  • Develop and implement strategies for optimizing import/export operations and reducing costs.

  • Train and lead a small team of logistics or trade compliance staff, if applicable.

  • Maintain accurate records for audits and reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in import/export management, logistics, or international shipping.

  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, INCOTERMS, and international shipping procedures.

  • Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.

  • Strong negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in logistics software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in Customs Compliance, International Trade, or Logistics Management.

  • Experience in the manufacturing sector is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements (e.g., DR-CAFTA) and local Dominican Republic customs laws.
