Vertex is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist, Immunology to join our research organization and contribute to the discovery and advancement of novel therapies for serious diseases. This individual will play an important role in designing and executing studies that deepen our understanding of immune mechanisms relevant to disease biology and therapeutic intervention.
The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in human primary immune cells, innate immunity, and macrophage biology, along with the scientific rigor and creativity needed to support research programs in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to generate high-quality data, guide scientific strategy, and help advance programs from early discovery through translational research activities.
This position is full-time on-site at the Vertex Leiden Center in Boston's Seaport district.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and interpret complex immunology studies to support discovery and translational research programs
- Lead experimental efforts focused on human innate immune function
- Apply deep scientific knowledge to investigate macrophage biology and its relevance to therapeutic hypotheses
- Generate high-quality, reproducible data and communicate findings clearly to cross-functional project teams and leadership
- Contribute to study design, data interpretation, and scientific decision-making across immunology-focused research initiatives
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in immunology, pharmacology and related functions
- Maintain accurate documentation of experimental work and ensure results are analyzed and reported in a rigorous manner
- Identify emerging scientific opportunities and incorporate relevant advances in immunology into ongoing research strategies
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing research environment
Knowledge and Skills
- Deep understanding of immunology, with particular strength in innate immune mechanisms and cellular immune biology
- Strong scientific problem-solving skills and the ability to independently develop and test hypotheses
- Demonstrated ability to generate and analyze complex experimental results and translate findings into actionable scientific insights
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data effectively to multidisciplinary audiences
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed research setting
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining scientific quality
Education and Experience
- PhD in Immunology or a related relevant scientific discipline
- Significant relevant postdoctoral and/or industry experience in immunology research
- Demonstrated experience working with human primary immune cells
- Strong expertise in innate immunity and macrophage biology
- Proven track record of designing and executing independent research and contributing to team-based scientific programs
Pay Range:
$124,200 - $186,400Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
