SUMMARY

The  Imaging Nurse in  Imaging Services has a dynamic and varied role.  The primary goal of the Imaging Nurse is to provide quality nursing care to the patient while in the Department of Imaging , contributing to the efficient operation of the department, promoting Hamilton Medical Center's philosophy, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. The Imaging Nurse will also routinely attend the Nurse Practice Council and other appropriate meetings to stay abreast of nursing practices and standards. The Imaging Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.  Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patient’s current status particularly focusing on the adult, geriatric and pediatric patient. . Performs all responsibilities as licensed and trained to ensure the quality of patient care. Practices proper sterile technique. Knowledge to maintain databases in the Imaging PACS systems. Schedules Inpatient and Outpatient procedures. Ensures global patient care before, during, and after procedures. Position is exposed to Radiation.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:               Graduate of an accredited Nursing program, ACLS required Conscious Sedation

Licensure:                Current license by the State of Georgia as a Registered Professional Nurse, CPR Required.

Experience:             Minimum of three (3) years experience, Medical/Surgical Nursing, preferably two (2) years of which have been in a critical care unit, emergency department, or experience working in an operating room setting

Skills:                         Ability to perform in critical cares situations.  Ability to use physiological monitoring and/or Radiologic Imaging equipment.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and employees within the organization.  Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs that are age appropriate.  Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for age group of patient served. Ability to administer moderate sedation, dysrhythmia recognition and treatment, CPR, establish and maintain peripheral intravenous access, ACLS certification, continuous monitoring of vital signs and oximetry with knowledge base for recognition of abnormalities and working with physician for treatment corrections. Required to obtain skill sets necessary to fill in and cover call in the Imaging department.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks under specific supervision. Worker will be performing in a radiation area. Worker is required to be on feet most of the day and work is moderately heavy. Moderate amounts of critical care nursing are required. Worker must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow. Worker will be performing in a radiation area.

Worker will be exposed to blood, body fluids, and potentially hazardous chemicals

Skills Required

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license
  • Current CPR certification
  • ACLS certification
  • Minimum three years of medical/surgical nursing experience
  • Preferably two years of experience in critical care, emergency department, or operating room nursing
  • Ability to administer moderate or conscious sedation
