Job Purpose

IIOT Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and improving Industrial IoT and factory data solutions that securely connect shopfloor equipment, PLC/SCADA systems, industrial networks, and business data platforms. The role supports digital manufacturing, reliable data acquisition, OT cybersecurity compliance, and actionable analytics for safety, quality, cost, service, and sustainability performance.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain IIOT connectivity from PLC, HMI, SCADA, sensors, utilities, and production equipment to historian, database, dashboard, and enterprise platforms.
  • Develop and maintain industrial data pipelines using appropriate protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus TCP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, SQL, API, or edge gateway solutions.
  • Support factory digitalization projects including OEE, energy monitoring, utility monitoring, alarm analytics, predictive maintenance, quality trending, and production performance dashboards.
  • Ensure data reliability, data quality, tag naming consistency, time synchronization, backup, change control, and documentation for all connected assets and digital solutions.
  • Design and maintain OT network architecture with proper segmentation between machine network, factory network, and enterprise/cloud connectivity in alignment with Unilever IT/OT requirements.
  • Support OT cybersecurity activities including asset inventory, access control, vulnerability remediation, patch coordination, secure backup, recovery testing, and compliance evidence preparation.
  • Troubleshoot PLC communication, network connectivity, data collection, historian, dashboard, and integration issues to minimize production impact.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Safety, IT, Cybersecurity, Global Digital teams, vendors, and contractors to align requirements, implementation, testing, and handover.
  • Create and maintain technical standards, URS, functional specifications, network diagrams, FAT/SAT protocols, user manuals, training materials, and handover documents.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and translate operational pain points into practical digital use cases with measurable business benefit.

Skill & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation, PLC/SCADA architecture, industrial networks, and manufacturing data systems.
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition, historian, SQL database, dashboard development, and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
  • Understanding of OT cybersecurity fundamentals, network segmentation, asset hardening, backup and recovery, and access management.
  • Ability to read and create network diagrams, control system architecture, I/O lists, tag lists, data mapping, and technical specifications.
  • Good analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills for communication, data integrity, and system availability issues.
  • Project coordination capability with clear follow-up on scope, schedule, budget, risk, documentation, and vendor deliverables.
  • Good command of both written and spoken English, with ability to communicate technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Power BI, SQL, Python, KQL, Azure IoT, ADX, or similar tools are an advantage.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, Control, Mechatronics, Computer, Information Technology, or related Engineering field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in automation, manufacturing IT, IIOT, control systems, industrial networking, or digital manufacturing projects.
  • Experience in FMCG manufacturing, TPM, Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodology is preferred.
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA systems, historian/database integration, dashboard deployment, and OT cybersecurity activities is preferred.
  • Experience working with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams through FAT, SAT, commissioning, training, and handover is an advantage.
