A day in the life of an IDA Chatbot Intern
As a member of the chatbot development team, your mission is to ensure that our clients can have intelligent and frictionless interactions with IDA (ING’s Digital Assistant) to help them unlock self-service solutions or connect them with the right customer support staff when appropriate. Your purpose is to build a trusted conversational agent that understands, helps and guides clients with empathy and clarity.
• Taking a data-driven approach, you are always on the hunt for opportunities to improve the chatbot. First and foremost, you want to make the experience better for the clients, but you also care about the scalability, performance and resilience of our chatbot.
• You have an inquisitive mindset and a taste for incremental innovation.
• You understand that improving our product is not limited to what is visible on the front-end. You are on a mission to improve data quality and structure as well as optimize and automate our quality assurance and other processes, all the while taking into account requirements around scalability and compliance.
• You are independent and self-organized, but you always share your progress and findings with your teammates and are not afraid to ask for help or feedback. You, like every other person in the team, are a willing and eager sparring partner, coach, reviewer, challenger…

You think you’re up for the challenge? This will help you assess if you are a good fit for this opportunity:
• You are knowledgeable about Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, particularly in the context of language processing. Ideally you have practical experience with LLMs and GenAI tools.
• You have solid Python skills, specifically for application in the context of data analysis/data science.
• You are a fast learner and quickly adapt to the limitations of our specific IT landscape.
• You apply a systematic research methodology, starting from real problems and working towards an evidenced solution and measurable impact.
• You are detail-oriented and methodical, but you are also pragmatic and solution-minded.
As an IDA Chatbot Intern, you will have the opportunity to:
• Discover the inner workings of a chatbot development team
• Learn how to function in a high-paced delivery context
• Help to improve our processes and solutions
• Contribute to the experience of thousands of ING clients reaching out to the service desk
Your specific mission, in addition to joining the team’s run activities, will be to contribute to the following project:
Design and build a scalable solution for automated prompt optimization in a multi-agent set-up.

You will become part of an enthusiastic team of Customer Journey Experts and Data Analysts who are on a joint mission to build The Best Banking Bot and have fun while doing it! As a team we take on the challenge of balancing the needs of the clients and the bank with dedication, flexibility and integrity.
