JOB TITLE: ICW Case Manager - Comprehensive

ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: FireLodge Children & Family Services

SUPERVISOR: Director of FireLodge Children & Family Services

FLSA: EXEMPT

CPN Child Care employees will be assigned to care for Indian Children and will require a criminal history background screening.

  

ALL FULL TIME POSITIONS: In addition to your pay, your salary also includes Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance. The Biweekly deduction from employee paycheck is $40.00 for Employee Only, $95.00 Employee plus Children, $120.00 Employee plus Spouse, and $140.00 Employee plus family.  

JOB SUMMARY:

Purpose: This position is established to assist families to alleviate crises that might lead to out of home placement of children; maintain the safety of children in their own homes; support families preparing to reunify or adopt; and assist families in obtaining services and other supports necessary to address their multiple needs in a culturally sensitive manner. Have ongoing and continuous assessment of child safety.

REPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

· Manage a caseload. 

· Completes investigations and assessments for children alleged to be abused and/or neglected.

· Visits children in home and out of home placement to ensure safety.

· Collects and compiles factual data on individuals, families, and groups to determine problems and needs.

· Knowledge of Indian Child Welfare Act and Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribal Codes 

· Prepares and maintains all requisite reports, case files, and program records to facilitate court testimony, including developing/implementing individualized service plans.

· Encourages growth and development in individuals and families by assistance in accessing community resources that contribute to social well-being.

· Maintains and reports data as required by State and/or Federal Agencies.

· Serves as an advocate for Indian Children and Indian family’s unit in representing, articulating, and disseminating information on Indian Culture and History. Provides liaison between Native American clientele, the State DHS, and Court Systems nationwide.

· Perform various other duties when the need arises.

· Ability to interact with young people.

· Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

· Knowledge and understanding of the case work principles, including confidentiality, assessment, and intervention techniques.

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in human services or social work or comparable work and training equivalent of 3 years or more. 

· Specialized Experience: The position requires experience which demonstrates the knowledge and understanding of child welfare case work principles, including assessment and intervention techniques. Must have demonstrated capabilities of working under minimal supervision. Knowledge of the Native American Community and sensitivity to total health and social service needs and problems of Native American clientele is requisite. 

· Background: The position requires work with children and families; therefore, applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and willing to be fingerprinted. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Perform other duties and projects as required by management.

· Is on-call 24 / 7 for emergency reports of child abuse on CPN Tribal and Trust land. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to remain sitting for prolonged periods of time doing repetitive work at the computer. Some bending, stretching, and lifting. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment; willing to go into homes of ICW clients and families.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or social work or equivalent work/training (3+ years)
  • Experience in child welfare case work, including assessment and intervention techniques
  • Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribal Codes
  • Ability to manage a caseload, complete investigations, develop individualized service plans, and prepare court-ready records
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, be fingerprinted, and work with children
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; willingness to visit client homes and maintain on-call availability
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and effectively interact with youth
  • Ability to maintain and report data as required by State and/or Federal agencies
