The Garrett Advancing Motion (GTX) Compression Product Group develops new products for the automotive and industrial markets that will have lasting impacts on our planet. We are expanding our team at our Torrance, CA facility in support of developing and launching industrial centrifugal compressors into production. A Development Engineer is needed to assist in the design and industrialization of this product. Work includes end to end design to production, including direct communication with the customer and cross-functional internal teams. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing technology at a well-established company.
The successful candidate will have experience launching new products into production and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment. This person will bring experience in turbomachinery, industrial compressors, and/or electric motors that wants to help expand Garrett’s centrifugal technology into the industrial market.
Responsibilities
Ensure robust product implementation in the customer package through direct customer engagement
Coordinate activities with design (2D/3D), simulation (CFD, FEA, etc.), manufacturing, and suppliers to create production viable components
Define FMEA and execute DVP&R by preparing prototype hardware, testing, analysis, and summary
Support development of process documents (manufacturing, lab, design, etc.) as needed to ensure lessons learned are captured
Drive field or launch issue resolution process using root cause analysis tools, document it by appropriate way (8D, 5WHY, Ishikawa, Knowledge Card, etc …..)
Generate VE ideas contributing to cost reduction of the product in terms of design, materials and processes
Persist on compliance with budget and resources allocated via AOP process
Initiate and execute benchmarking activity related to his component & discipline
Reports back through the GBE and the Domains any major gaps in simulation tools, knowledge gaps and product gaps to meet new performance, reliability and cost targets for future development
Position Requirements
Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other related engineering discipline
At least 3-5 years of experience with developing and/or launching products into production
Excellent verbal and written communications skills for internal and external communication
10-20% travel to manufacturing and/or customer sites
Fluent in English

Experience with safety certification (UL, CE, etc.)

Pay Range
The salary range for this role is between $105,400 and $131,800.
*Note that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, education, training, and/or experience.
