Job DescriptionTe āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the role
As a Hydro Generation Technician Electrical, you’ll be one of the trusted kaitiaki of our hydro plant. Your days will be a blend of hands‑on technical mahi, problem solving and teamwork, ensuring that our plant and apparatus keep performing with reliability and care. You’ll carry out maintenance across the site, support fault response and operate equipment safely, always guided by our Safety Rules and our unwavering commitment to Target Zero Harm.
You will be working across all of our Clutha hydro scheme, so you'll need to be able to get to either of our Clyde or Roxburgh locations (work vehicles are provided for inter site travel).
This is a role where no two days look the same. Some days you'll be deep in diagnostics, other days you’ll be isolating plant or supporting operations during unexpected events or emergencies. You’ll be working closely with skilled colleagues, collaborating across teams and using your expertise to help keep our stations running smoothly. It’s practical, purpose‑driven work that feels like you’re part of something bigger!
Ko wai koe | About you
You’re someone who brings solid technical grounding and a willingness to keep learning. Ideally, you’ll hold a Trade Certificate or equivalent with NZ electrical registration or If you are still working towards registration or have relevant experience in power generation or heavy industry, we would still love to kōrero.
You’ll thrive in a team environment where communication matters (especially during the lunch time daily quiz) and you’re known for being clear, calm and collaborative, able to build relationships and work well with peers and stakeholders.
You enjoy tackling tricky problems, spotting practical solutions and thinking ahead to prevent future issues. Experience with systematic maintenance, condition monitoring, plant operations or inventory or contract supervision is a nice‑to‑have, not a deal‑breaker. Most importantly, you bring integrity, adaptability and a steady, open approach, even when things are changing around you.
