This position is based at our Headquarters in Zwijndrecht, Belgium and you will work as part of our coastal engineering team within the engineering department of our dredging activity line. Within this team we perform coastal & hydraulic design activities for example for the design of breakwaters, revetments, scour protections, etc. We also perform metocean data analyses, workability analyses & hydrodynamic and morphological calculations/modelling. You will be responsible for design activities during marine engineering tenders or projects worldwide.Your responsibilities

  • Prepare and review the project basis of design (focused on coastal engineering aspects) and specifications.

  • Perform design calculations for marine constructions like breakwaters, dikes, shore and scour protections, etc.

  • Develop innovative designs like nature inclusive designs

  • Develop sustainable solutions for the design assignments you are working on.

  • Reporting and reviewing of design calculations.

  • Optimize designs of coastal structures from a constructability or economic point of view

  • Collect and analyze metocean data to study local site conditions as input for design of structures, weather downtime calculations, etc.

  • Follow-up of specialized consultants that perform coastal engineering studies

  • Advise tender or project teams on design aspects, both during the preparation and the execution of our projects worldwide.

  • For tenders and projects with a large coastal engineering scope, you can also become (temporary) part of those teams.

  • You will be based in our head office and work mainly in Belgium, but short missions abroad will be part of your job.

Your profile

  • BSc or MSc in Civil Engineering with a specialization in construction, coastal or marine engineering.

  • 3-5 yrs experience in a similar job or function is recommended

  • Experience with coastal engineering tools & modelling software and other relevant engineering software such as Matlab, Python is recommended

  • Knowledge of design codes, rules and guidelines for coastal engineering;

  • Fluent in verbal and written Dutch and English.

  • Strong analytical skills with a critical view towards the tasks to be carried out;

  • You are creative, pro-active, well-structured and openminded and like working in teams (of different disciplines).

  • You care about the environment and you give sustainability high priority
