High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) is a key enabler for a carbon-neutral energy system. By joining the HVDC team in Germany or the Netherlands, you will be contributing to the energy transition in Germany and around the world.

The opportunity

HVDC Sales Manager (m/f/d) based in Germany

You are responsible for sales of some of the largest and most technology intensive solutions within Hitachi Energy, meaning High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems, within the Europe region.

You capture and negotiate large HVDC opportunities and have the operational management of an allocated tender team comprising of tender managers, engineers, lawyers, tax advisors, financing specialists and service experts. In close collaboration with Hitachi Energy account management, front-end sales, country representatives, you position Hitachi Energy for future business opportunities as well as identifying consortium partners and local contractors/suppliers.

How you'll make an impact

  • Sell large HVDC system projects (EPC) to our customers , focusing on profitability targets as given by Hitachi Energy management

  • Lead the negotiations with the aim of closing projects with the best possible conditions for Hitachi Energy at or above the approved margin, desired cash flow and with an acceptable risk profile

  • Establish and maintain effective customer relationships to understand customer needs, promote customer understanding of Hitachi Energie’s full offering as well as aligning the internal organization to provide an effective and competitive solution.

  • Identify and drive business development of new market opportunities for allocated projects in Europe with strong focus on the Netherlands/Germany. 

  • Develop sales strategy and capture plans with the assigned capture team using company tools including performing regular status reviews ensuring their implementation.

  • Steer capture teams from early pursuit stage and prepare offers in coordination with the bid and proposal department ensuring that Hitachi Energy is delivering cost-optimized, value focused solutions in due time.  

  • Lead consortiums of internal Hitachi Energy companies participating in the opportunities and/or with external partners forming external consortiums with Hitachi Energy.

  • Drive the negotiations with the aim of close deals with the best possible conditions by creating added value for the customer and Hitachi Energy.

  • Ensure the successful outcome of transactions, contracts and proposals by using effective sales techniques and your own experience.

  • Ensure know-how sharing and cross-collaboration internally within Hitachi Energy to fully leverage the power of one of the core leaders in the industry.

Your background

  • University master’s degree in engineering, business administration, and/or economics/MBA

  • At least 10 years’ experience in large infrastructure project sales (EPC contracts), with extensive commercial experience

  • Working experience with various cultures and people while having sensitivity on cultural behavior.

  • Sales attitude with strong negotiation and closing skills, supportive and able to motivate teams. Ability to work under pressure. Willingness to travel

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must as well as depending on the location German is a must, additional languages are a plus.

  • Existing network / greater knowledge within the electricity sector as well as institutional network/knowledge is a plus.

  • Networking, social, team builder, result, and customer oriented; assertive but also flexible.

  • Strategic thinking, competence in analyzing and managing complex business situations and customer needs.

  • Good command of MS Office and cloud-based tools.
