Job Overview:
Supports the Project and craft and salaried workforce throughout the employment lifecycle. Has a broad range of responsibilities, including but not limited to talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, talent management, compensation and benefits, and operations.
This role partners closely with Project Leadership to align HR strategy with project objectives, ensuring effective workforce planning, employee relations, compliance, and talent management. The role is accountable to the Country HR Lead based in the Home Office HR location relevant to the project designation.
ResponsibilitiesKey Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Work within defined parameters can make decisions and apply concepts to issues of high complexity and resolve issues through immediate action
- Provide timely and accurate advice and guidance on general HR inquiries related to policies and processes and other general HR matters, including employee relations, benefits, talent development, and payroll
- Serve as the primary HR leader on-site, advising Project Director and leadership team on all people-related matters
- Manage recruitment activities in line with business requirements and in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team primarily on craft workers but also with Home Office HR for the assignment and hire of salaried level project team members
- Manage the offer process by ensuring offer letters and employment contracts are issued per Company policy, local laws, and regulations
- Manage the onboarding and off-boarding processes, which include conducting orientation sessions, exit interviews, and system updates
- Develop, maintain and execute workforce plans based on project schedules as agreed with project leadership
- Manage talent management processes, including annual initiatives such as talent review, succession planning, and goals setting
- Manage compensation processes such as salary reviews and promotions, including annual initiatives such as merit review
- Manage employee relations issues, including investigations, conflict resolution, and corrective actions
- Lead disciplinary processes and provide coaching to managers on employee management practices
- Drive performance management processes, including goal setting, reviews, and development planning
- Support leadership capability development and training initiatives
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused work environment
- Develop/define and Implement employee engagement initiatives aligned with company values in line with project needs and with project leadership team
- Collaborate with Project Management Project Controls, Construction, HSE, and Finance teams including proactive participation in site meetings to support successful project completion
- Partner with HR COEs on global initiatives
- Responsible for maintenance of or oversight of HR and other systems as required
- Responsible for generating monthly and ad hoc HR reports by compiling, transforming, and visualizing data
- Make recommendations for process improvements and innovations to drive efficiencies and ensure implementation is effected in a timely manner
- Develop, maintain, and approve procedural documentation to accurately reflect business processes and ensure these are maintained in the event of changes to real time processes or requirements
- Ensure appropriate communications plans are developed and rolled out suitable for site location to ensure full understanding of company processes, procedures and values are understood by all workers
- Recruit, develop and manage a team of HR Generalists
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Promotes and enforces consistency on the project in how the HR team applies itself in its day to day activities to make the service provision predictable and of a high standard of compliance and with balanced judgement
- Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures.
- Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams
- Provide transparent reporting to Country HR Lead and to seek guidance when needed to ensure delays in project delivery are avoided
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not essential.
- A minimum of ten (10) years experience in a similar or Senior HR Generalist role.
- 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in oil & gas, LNG, EPC, or large-scale construction site based position.
- A detailed understanding of HR principles and practices and their practical application.
- Experience with HR Systems, e.g., SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to build good relationships.
- Hands on decision maker who is solution driven.
- Experience of building strong site-based teams.
- Ability to handle challenging situations with calm authority.
- Capability to apply discretion and maintain high levels of confidentiality.
