The ideal candidate has four or more years of progressive HR experience, a working knowledge of federal and Arizona/Texas employment law, and the judgment and discretion to be the primary point of contact for employees and managers on HR matters.

This role runs the full employee lifecycle — recruiting, onboarding, personnel records, timecards and payroll inputs, benefits, employee relations, and offboarding — and manages business licensing, bonding, and insurance. You will also serve as the company's liaison to our fractional HR partner, insurance brokers, surety providers, and licensing authorities. This is a full-time, hourly position (40 hours per week, weekdays) paying $25.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Join our team as we expand into solar projects across Arizona and beyond. As part of one of the nation's fastest-growing and most innovative energy companies (Inc. 500), you'll build and run the HR operating system that supports our office and field teams.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own recruiting execution: post approved openings, source and screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and prepare offer letters for signature through DocuSign.
  • Order and adjudicate background checks and pre-employment drug screens, including FCRA notices when required.
  • Run new-hire onboarding (I-9/E-Verify, W-4, direct deposit, policy acknowledgments, Gusto setup, equipment and accounts) and lead new-hire orientation.
  • Maintain complete, accurate personnel files in SharePoint; audit and submit weekly timecards and process payroll-related items with Accounting.
  • Administer benefits enrollment, open enrollment, PTO, leave of absence, and accommodation requests; serve as the employee contact for benefits questions and the liaison to carriers and the broker.
  • Serve as first point of contact for employees and managers on HR questions, policy, pay, and benefits; intake and investigate employee complaints and support managers with performance reviews, improvement plans, and disciplinary documentation.
  • Maintain the Employee Handbook and HR policies and run offboarding from exit paperwork through account deactivation.
  • Manage business and contractor licenses, bonds, state registrations, tax registrations, and annual report filings; keep the renewal and filing calendars current.
  • Administer insurance policies and renewals with the broker, maintain the certificate-of-insurance log, and run the workers' compensation program end to end, including claim reporting, return-to-work coordination, and the annual premium audit.
  • Respond to unemployment-insurance claims and notices in Arizona and Texas.
  • Keep HR postings, forms, templates, contact lists, and org charts current; maintain and advance HR trackers and automations in SharePoint, Gusto, and DocuSign.
  • Use company-approved AI tools (such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot) every day to draft documents, summarize records, analyze data, and automate HR workflows, following the company AI policy (IT-POL-001 Using Claude AI) and keeping confidential and personnel data inside approved systems.

Requirements
  • Four or more years of progressive HR experience, including at least two in a generalist or employee-relations role; construction or field-services experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of FLSA, I-9/E-Verify, ADA, FMLA, workers' compensation, and Arizona and Texas wage-and-hour and paid-sick-leave requirements.
  • Experience with contractor licensing, bonding, and commercial insurance administration preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Teams); experience with Gusto, DocuSign, or Procore a plus.
  • Required: daily, hands-on use of AI tools (such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot) to draft, summarize, analyze, and automate routine work, and the ability to learn new AI tools as the company adopts them.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Sound judgment, high attention to detail, and demonstrated discretion with confidential information.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, business, or related field, or equivalent experience; aPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP preferred.
