Description
The Human Resources Generalist supports the full scope of HR operations for our rural Critical Access Hospital, ensuring consistent, compliant, and employee-centered HR services. This role manages day-to-day HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, HRIS accuracy, and policy implementation. The HR Generalist partners closely with department leaders and staff to maintain a positive work environment and uphold hospital standards for professionalism, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Recruitment & Hiring — Coordinate job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, reference checks, and offer preparation for clinical and non-clinical roles.
- Onboarding & Orientation — Facilitate new-hire paperwork, credential verification, background checks, and first-day orientation; ensure compliance with CAH staffing requirements.
- Leave Administration — Manage all protected and discretionary leave programs including FMLA, ADA-related leave, PTO, and sick leave. Review eligibility, guide employees through required documentation, coordinate with supervisors to maintain safe staffing levels, and ensure accurate recordkeeping for regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
- Employee Relations — Support conflict resolution, coach supervisors on performance conversations, document concerns, and help maintain a respectful, mission-driven workplace.
- Benefits Administration — Assist employees with enrollment, changes, claims questions, and annual open enrollment; maintain accurate benefit records.
- HRIS & Records Management — Maintain personnel files, HRIS data integrity, licensure tracking, and compliance documentation.
- Policy Implementation — Support policy updates, communicate changes, and ensure consistent application across departments.
- Compliance & Reporting — Assist with regulatory audits, credentialing checks, OSHA logs, FMLA administration, and mandatory reporting.
- Training & Development — Coordinate mandatory education, track completion, and support leadership with department-specific training needs.
- Payroll Support — Prepare payroll changes, verify timekeeping accuracy, and collaborate with Finance to ensure timely processing.
- Culture & Engagement — Support recognition programs, retention initiatives, and communication strategies that strengthen rural hospital culture.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience:
- 2–4 years of HR experience; healthcare or Critical Access Hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Licensure/Certification:
- SHRM-CP or PHR preferred but not required.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office, and electronic onboarding systems.
- HR Compliance Knowledge — Understanding of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, and healthcare-specific regulatory requirements.
- Communication & Professionalism — Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support staff at all levels.
- Problem-Solving — Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced rural hospital environment.

Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2-4 years of human resources experience
- Healthcare or Critical Access Hospital experience
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office, and electronic onboarding systems
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, and healthcare-specific regulatory requirements
- Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and confidentiality skills
