As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a dynamic and strategic HR Generalist (Payroll & Benefits) who is responsible for owning the semi-monthly payroll process while supporting core human resources functions. This position plays a key role in developing and maintaining HR policies and procedures assisting with employee benefits and ensuring compliance with employment laws. The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of hands-on HR experience, operates with a high level of independence, and serves as a trusted resource for employees and leadership. 

Key Responsibilities 

Payroll Ownership 

  • Own and execute the semi-monthly payroll process end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance 

  • Manage payroll inputs including but not limited to timekeeping, PTO, bonuses, deductions, and garnishments 

  • Reconcile payroll reports, resolve discrepancies, and respond to payroll-related inquiries 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws 

  • Support year-end payroll activities including audits and W-2 processing 

Human Resources 

  • Develop, document, and maintain HR policies and procedures 

  • Administer employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, offboarding, employee records, and HRIS maintenance 

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, payroll, and benefits 

  • Support employee relations matters, performance management processes, and corrective action documentation 

  • Ensure HR practices remain compliant with employment laws and company standards 

Benefits Administration 

  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and leave programs 

  • Manage benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations in coordination with payroll 

  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and payroll benefit deductions 

  • Support open enrollment planning, communications, and vendor coordination 

  • Respond to employee benefits questions and resolve issues with providers 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience) 

  • 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience with direct ownership of payroll 

  • Proven experience processing semi-monthly payroll 

  • Working knowledge of benefits administration and employment regulations 

  • Experience creating and maintaining HR policies and procedures 

  • Strong attention to detail and discretion with confidential information 

  • Excellent and professional communication skills 

Preferred 

  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (Paycom a plus) 

  • Multi-state payroll experience 

  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) 

Skills & Competencies 

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability 

  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities 

  • Clear, professional written communication skills 

  • Practical, employee-focused approach to HR 

  • Proficiency in Excel and HR/payroll systems
