We have an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Coordinator to join Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland! This position supports Carroll Lutheran Village, our Life Plan Community located in Westminster, Maryland, and is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a career in Human Resources while gaining hands-on experience across a variety of HR functions.
This position is Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
As a Human Resources Coordinator, you'll be an important resource for our team members and leaders while gaining experience in benefits, onboarding, HRIS, employee relations, training, compliance, team member engagement, and more.
What You'll Do as a Human Resources Coordinator:

Serve as an HR resource for team members and supervisors, assisting with questions related to policies, pay, benefits, working conditions, and HR systems.

Assist with the administration of team member benefit plans, including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts.

Coordinate the new hire and onboarding experience, including electronic onboarding and HR orientation.

Participate in supervisory training and new team member welcome programs.

Maintain HR and team member records in accordance with state and federal requirements.

Support and manage HRIS functions, including performance management, merit increases, position management, applicant tracking, benefits administration, COBRA, ACA administration, payroll-related data entry, and general HRIS maintenance.

Partner with supervisors and directors by providing guidance on organizational policies, workplace concerns, interpersonal conflicts, and progressive disciplinary processes.

Participate in workplace investigations and focus groups as needed.

Assist with the development and revision of HR policies, procedures, forms, and other resources.

Coordinate team member scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs.

Perform HR administrative functions, including reviewing and reconciling invoices, coordinating scholarship payments, processing unemployment claims, and responding to employment verification requests.

Support HR communications through various email and text messaging platforms.

Help plan and coordinate team member recognition events, engagement activities, and wellness initiatives.

Qualifications
Education | Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field, or equivalent advanced training and direct HR experience
- Preferred: Two years of experience in human resources and benefits administration.
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)

- Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
- Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
- Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
- Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
- Physically able to move throughout the workday, including travel between campus locations and lifting items up to 10 pounds using safe handling practices.
- May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
- Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
