Responsible for the administration of the day-to-day human resources policies and programs, including compensation and benefits administration, employee relations, record keeping, training, equal employment opportunity (EEO), organizational development, staffing, safety, security, and employee communications for the Bemidji Lumbermill.The salary range for this position is $86,775 – 144,625.The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 10% of salary.Leadership:

- Advise and assist site managers in all areas of human resource responsibility.
- Provide assistance in ascertaining employee compliance regarding policies such as attendance, safety, job performance, quality and assist in the corrective action process as needed. Address performance issues promptly.
- Act as a site leader for employee communications along with site manager.
- Lead and oversee all activities related to time collection, payroll system, and HRIS management.
- Develop and provide training in safety, leadership, management and supervisory skills.
- Assist with succession planning and employee development.
- Drive innovation in all aspects of human resources.
- Comply with and ensure adherence to all federal, state, local, and corporate legal requirements including advising site management.
- Coordinate and monitor all compensation and benefit systems and practices for the division, ensuring they are within corporate guidelines.
- Coordinate HR related legal activity with Division HR, Corporate Legal, and outside counsel as directed.
- Remain current on changes in employment laws such as Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Federal Labor Standards Act (FSLA), etc. and ensure compliance with all employment laws and the site’s Affirmative Action Plan (AAP).
- Remain current and ensure compliance with all state employment laws including MN Employee Sick & Safe Time (ESST), MN Paid Leave Law, MN Wage Theft Law, and MN Meal and Rest Breaks Law. Annually evaluate and assess applicability and procedural methods for the site.
- Ensure the security and maintenance of human resource files, including, personnel, benefits, medical, and payroll.
- Maintain an effective recruitment process for hourly and salaried employees ensuring proper authorization for filling openings in compliance with the site’s AAP.
- Administer all pre-employment requirements for new hires and coordinate administration of employee orientations.
- Manage the posting process, selection procedure, and filling of job openings, including the internal bid system for the posting and filling of hourly positions.
- Advise on performance by coaching and counseling managers and employees.
- Assist and provide counsel to the site’s management team regarding the application of all policies and procedures.
- Investigate all employee questions and/or complaints to determine root cause and work with management to resolve.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related field is required.
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification preferred.
- At least five (5) years of progressive HR generalist experience required.
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills and experience resolving HR issues required.
- Ability to make clear and persuasive presentations and ability to plan and complete complex projects and lead project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive/confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
- Microsoft computer skills including working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other HR information systems.
- Must have a solid understanding of the site’s business and the environment it operates in, being sensitive to economic, social, and political factors impacting the site.
- Office environment.
- Significant amount of time in a mill, creating exposure to noise, heat, and dust requiring safety equipment to be worn.
- Some mental/physical fatigue from computer use.
