Summary Generated by Built In

Snap Inc is a technology company. We believe the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Snap contributes to human progress by empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. The Company’s three core products are Snapchat, a visual messaging app that enhances your relationships with friends, family, and the world; Lens Studio, an augmented reality platform that powers AR across Snapchat and other services; and its AR glasses, Spectacles.

Working from our office in Santa Monica, CA, you will work with our team of world class designers and engineers to create a new paradigm of products that will merge the digital with the physical world. While part of the Spectacles Design team, you will work independently between ID, Engineering, UXR and Strategy, from research to concepts, prototypes and production.

We’re looking for a Human Factors Specialist to join our Spectacles Design Team!

What you’ll do:

  • Build and own the human factors discipline at Spectacles

  • Develop an exceptional human factors understanding of the people that are going to use our products (particularly the user's head)

  • Establish a Snap HF database, develop standards, HF design principles and guidelines

  • Collect, analyze and standardize ergonomic datasets (IPD, head shapes, ear to forehead dimensions, hinge forces, etc.), by tapping into industry resources and by running your own user studies

  • Employ appropriate methods (qualitative and quantitative) and tools (lab instruments, surveys, and assessment) to address questions at hand, conducting user-centered research, testing and analysis

  • Collaborate with ID to implement learnings into the HW design (from evaluation of prototypes to defining relevant demographic dataset for mass produced products)

  • Work closely with ID, Engineering, User Research and outside vendors

  • Collaborate effectively with specialists in our engineering teams and with relevant outside partners by establishing x-functional relationships to accelerate data collection and learning.

  • Collaborate with our UXR team, setting up and conducting user testing to validate your assumptions and to understand current shortfalls better.

  • Produce data that enables us to make intelligent trade-offs between the lens experiences and wearability.

  • Generate strategic and actionable inputs and requirements for product development

  • Directly impact the design of our products, increasing product wearability, performance and improving user experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to lead all human factors efforts

  • Knowledge of technical tools that are appropriate for the task

  • Knowledge of general human factors procedures, human ergonomics, biomechanics, motor control, wearability, techniques, data storage, data entry, and data science principles

  • Ability to effectively plan, implement, and adjust human factor activities to meet organizational goals and objectives.

  • Ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative research for various human and user experience-related problem statements. Skills in analyzing large datasets to generate meaningful results.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to stakeholders verbally and in writing

  • Skills to condense complex data for various stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline, or equivalent years of experience

  • 5+ years of relevant human factors experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in an engineering or science discipline

  • Solid understanding of ergonomics and biomechanics

  • Track record of HF work on production products

  • Experience with headworn tech and generally wearable technology

  • Basic understanding of visual science, auditory science, and human motor control

  • Experience negotiating complex trade studies to optimize for wearability, usability, schedule and performance

  • Experience creating and analyzing (physical) human interfaces using digital human models

  • Working knowledge in 3D CAD (NX, Solidworks, Creo, Rhino, or similar)

  • Understanding of the Product Development Process
