What You Will Do

  • Be the sites’ HSE lead for HSE initiatives (regional & enterprise) with guidance from Regional HSE Leader and partnering with regional HSE team and stakeholders.
  • Be the point of contact for the site based management teams with regard to HSE matters at their site and support from construction phase through operational phase.
    • Construction Operations
      • Manage the on site HSE contractor resource/s,  as required, in partnership with with  NA program  management team
      • Support the construction site management team/s at both pre and construction phases
  • Ability to 
    • develop and implement HSE procedures/work instructions (WI) 
      • contribute to monitoring and maintaining HSE compliance and standards
    • partner with “NA Training & Improvement” team to coordinate delivery of all relevant HSE training for compliance.
    • assist/conduct incident management and carry out HS&E compliance audits & site inspections.
      • Provide guidance and best practice considerations in relation to corrective actions and preventive actions.
      • Ensure accurate data is captured and reported with regard to HSE matters in a timely manner.
    • support and coach site personnel (including site leadership and other functions)
      • in the development/update and implementation of risk assessments like “Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS)”,” Safe Systems of Works (SSoW)”, and/or “Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs)” and 
      • on relevant HSE matters. 
    • continually review the effectiveness and accuracy of risk assessments and user requirements making recommendations for improvement.
    • analyze health & safety data/trends and advise on how to improve performance in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Responsible for managing the injury/illness reporting process including case management, in partnership with Ocado stakeholders (i.e. HR), in compliance with provincial  government requirements.
  • Facilitate/coordinate activities in regards to HSE matters (i.e fire safety, insurance risk assessment actions, emergency response) by liaising with local authorities (i.e fire department), clients, and Ocado stakeholders across different sites.
  • Facilitate/coordinate activities in regards to environmental activities (i.e. waste management, spill response).
  • Stay informed of changes in law, and draft changes for review in policy and management systems. .
  • Assist and support with considerations for a wide variety of business projects.
  • Support and participate in developmental projects and design reviews. 
  • The position is considered to be a North American resource but expected to be  located in one of the following sites within the Canada:
    • Calgary, Alberta
    • Vaughn, Ontario, 
    • Montreal, Quebec
    • Vancouver, British Columbia
  • This is a hybrid work model.  
    • The individual is expected to be on site at least 3 days unless on travel.
    • Approximately 40% travel within Canada, with occasional travel in the NA region.

Who you are

  • General industry experience in HSE management(general and provincial)
    • Construction industry experience is a plus. 
  • The ability to:
    • conduct incident investigation and root cause analysis,
    • compile accurate detailed reports
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Working At Height & Fall Protection
    • Fire safety and prevention plans
    • Emergency action/response plans
    • Electrical Safety along with control of hazardous energy
    • Automation/robotics safety
    • Construction safety
    • Facilities Management
    • Manual Handling 
    • Powered industrial vehicle/equipment
  • A good understanding of basic project management principles
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Preferred (in addition to minimum)

  • Educational requirements and HSE experience:
    • Minimum 7-10 years HSE experience in HSE or in a technical field (electrical engineering/technology, fire safety, engineering technology, automation/robotics safety).
    • Minimum 5 years HSE experience with a Bachelors’ degree in HSE or in a technical field (electrical engineering/technology, fire safety, engineering technology, automation/robotics safety)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)/Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)/Certified Health and Safety Manager (CHSM)/National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)/Occupational Health and Safety Certificate (OH&S Certificate) certification
  • Previous experience of construction installation within an automated distribution/manufacturing environment.
