The HRIS Analyst will execute the development, on-going maintenance, and operational and technical aspects of Workday HCM system. The HRIS Analyst may specialize in a specific Workday module (e.g., Recruiting), but will also have familiarity with all modules as a system of back up. This role will provide production support, develop requirements, conceptualize designs, and recommend HR business processes in support of core organizational HR functions for the university. Collaborates with a broad range of business partners and stakeholders, including partners from HR centers of expertise. Effectively documents future-state processes, tests the effectiveness of developed solutions, and enables the adoption of new business processes through training support. This role will help enable USC’s vision while promoting USC’s culture and values. 

Job Responsibilities

The candidate for the position of HRIS Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Supporting and executing ongoing Workday configuration and enhancement needs for HR business processes (e.g., compensation, benefits, recruiting). Providing technical support for Workday projects, such as testing for Workday systems updates/upgrades. Working with functional users to provide technical support, research, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with core HCM and other HR modules. Providing production support, break/fix, problem solving, and operational support.

  • Partnering closely with the HR centers of expertise to build, enhance and deliver Workday business processes to support self-service and the end user experience. Partnering with our HR team and other internal stakeholders to help them define business requirements, implement, test, and deploy additional HCM modules, changes to business processes, or integrations as needed. Communicating and presenting recommended improvements and solutions to Workday business processes and decision-making rationale. Delivering engaging experiences that balance customer needs, business goals, and technical realities by working collaboratively across the organization, with fellow analysts and other university technical stakeholders. Engaging with technical teams to profile applications and services, and identify interdependencies or complementary designs.

  • Engaging in Human Centered Design (HCD) processes and approaches to deliver a broad range of sustainable solutions, and in standard business analysis methodology, outlining problems, opportunities, and solutions. Supporting process improvement efforts within the team and across the organization.

  • Maintaining currency on emerging technologies, approaches, and Workday enhancements, leveraging the latest industry knowledge while contributing to innovation and continuous improvement for the organization. Seeking opportunities for innovation and maximizing HRIS system functionality by continually developing skills, knowledge, and abilities.

  • Working to mitigate risk while owning tasks, resources, and changes. Supporting the release management process by anticipating risks. Producing required project analysis documentation (e.g. business requirements, scope matrices, use cases, future state proposals, user acceptance technology [UAT] plans).

  • Collaborating with a broad range of business and technical partners and stakeholders. Utilizing leading practices to effectively anticipate, analyze, and articulate problems, evaluate and document problem alternatives, manage constraints, and suggest interim and long-term solutions.

  • Developing trusting, credible relationships from demonstrated ethical judgment, behavior, and practiced confidentiality related to HRIS administration. Promoting an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creating unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics. 

  • Contributing toward immediate and long-term goals. Demonstrating, through words, actions, and ideas, alignment to USC’s strategic plan and the HR organization’s strategic plan. Enabling the university to fulfill its academic and people missions through enhanced HR service.

  • Performing other related responsibilities as requested and when necessary. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of HRIS Analyst has the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, industrial/organizational psychology, business administration, or another related field.

  • Five or more years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Workday HCM configuration, troubleshooting, user support, and/or operational tasks.

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Ability to use sound judgment in making decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Experience delivering end-to-end, user-centered products, considering stakeholder requirements, user research, market analysis, data, customer feedback, and technical constraints or opportunities.

  • Functional and configuration knowledge of Workday HCM.

  • Experience conducting or facilitating requirement-gathering interviews or sessions.

  • Experience utilizing analytics tools to measure results of user- centered products, documenting success, presenting opportunities, and supporting decision-making.

  • Experience developing test strategies and plans, using widely accepted test methodologies or frameworks and proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working with functional groups, utilizing time management and prioritization skills to make efficient, logical decisions in a rapidly-changing environment.

  • Experience identifying workforce trends and strategic recommendations from workforce data and reports.

  • Experience presenting data and insights in a digestible format for a variety of stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of the employee life cycle as it pertains to key people analytics and human capital analytics (e.g., turnover/retention, labor costs, engagement).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building abilities.

  • Experience communicating and partnering with internal partners (HR Partners).

The annual base salary range for this position is $86,653.04 - $99,382.74. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree; Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience working with human resources information systems including systems implementation and configuration. Demonstrated working knowledge of HRIS software and systems. Knowledge of database maintenance basic concepts. Demonstrated analytical, communication, organization, critical thinking, and customer service skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to demonstrate close attention to detail.
