Position Summary

Blucora a parent company of Avantax Wealth Management, Avantax Planning Partners, and TaxAct is seeking a Principal, HR Business Partner (HRBP) that will be responsible for partnering with our leaders and managers to support and provide strategic guidance on organizational design, development/performance needs, change design and execution, workforce planning, and business unit culture. They will be responsible for managing stakeholder expectations between the human resources team and the business units and/or functional units they're supporting. The HRBP will collaborate with other members of the Human Resources team to develop and launch solutions that improve key outcomes for their assigned focal groups. The incumbent will facilitate company policies and procedures consistently and equitably and ensure that all legal requirements are met.

Success in this role requires strong ownership and results in orientation, team orientation, proactivity, and a sense of urgency with excellent follow-through. The HRBP must be able to learn the business and leverage data from a range of sources to tell a story, drive alignment and implement change. The ideal candidate has deep empathy for understanding the motivations and emotions of others, as well as a proven ability to develop consultative relationships with team members at a variety of levels. They have a structured problem-solving approach and proven experience in executing a functional strategy to drive tangible results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • HR People Plan - Collaborate with business leaders to identify business priorities and develop and execute a human resources Workplan to build consistency within assigned focal groups and across the organization. You ensure alignment of the HR people plan, people programs, and tools with business strategic goals, and advise on the development and implementation of the holistic HR people plan (e.g., talent management, team development, performance management, leadership effectiveness, culture) on behalf of your assigned focal groups.
  • Provides recommendations to senior leadership, shared services, and HR teams. Translate data and insights into action and lead the implementation of organizational solutions.
  • Organizational Design - Collaborates with business leaders to interpret business needs and people priorities. Contributes to the design and/or integration of the holistic organizational plan (i.e., talent, structure, culture, process) for the assigned organization(s) and/or functional groups. Partners with businesses to monitor, execute, and continue to evolve and inform the design.
  • Strategic Talent Management - Identify and predict current and future talent needs and influence the design and implementation of strategic talent management solutions in alignment with organizational strategy, data, and budgets. In partnership with other teams, design talent movement plans for critical roles and establish a talent pipeline. Identify strategies to influence talent development plans and programs and establish a roadmap to build capabilities by helping business leaders make decisions to build, recruit, or consider internal talent and assess the impact of the decisions. Guide and participate in active talent acquisition activity for assigned focal groups ongoing recruitment
  • Change Design & Execution - Identify the needs for change and lead the implementation and adaption to new or changing structures (leadership, organizational, or team), cultural change, or programs/processes (e.g., training, talent movement) for an organization. Drive and/or contribute to developing change management and communication plans in collaboration with the Corporate Communications team and business leaders.
  • Leadership & Team Performance - Interpret metrics to monitor and ensure leadership and manager performance and identify strategies and action plans to enable leadership, manager, and team transformation. Design and manage the implementation of interventions to improve leadership, manager, team, and employee performance and capability. Coach managers and leaders to facilitate organizational change and model our guiding principles & behaviors.
  • Employee Relations - As a member of the HR Business Partner team, provide input on employee relation matters by contributing to the research, development, writing, and updating of policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines and communicating and enforcing organization values. In partnership with HR Manager, resolves medium to large-sized complexity of employee relation issues through a systemic approach; conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • May travel, as needed, to satellite offices.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, psychology, etc., or equivalent experience required; Master's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or Psychology preferred.
  • PHR or CP certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience is required, preferably as a strategic Human Resources Business Partner within a mid-size, high-growth organization
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Working knowledge of multi-state employment laws
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the company's operation as well as the Human Resources organization and programs
  • Effective customer service and communication skills (e.g., presentation, verbal, written, interpersonal)
  • Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner, tailoring messages to ensure diverse audiences understand
  • Capable of leveraging metrics, drawing insights from data and information, which will enable informed decision making
  • Must be customer-focused, flexible, receptive to feedback, open to change, and execute with exceptional experience-orientation
  • Work effectively in group settings with the ability to remain professional and calm, despite pressure and uncertainty
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple projects at once and meet tight deadlines without compromising integrity and quality
  • Ability to work independently, properly influence, and develop professional, trusting relationships with others
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think and operate strategically and develop programming with long-term, sustainable business impact
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Experience with developing, promoting, and implementing HR-related programs and protocol, preferably within a start-up and/or fast-paced, high-growth organization
  • Experience working with change management principles, tools, and methodologies
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, such as compensation practices, organizational analysis, culture, employee engagement, performance management
  • Experience working within a Center of Expertise (COE) human resources operations structure is preferred
