Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Bilingual (French/English) Regional HR Generalist professional to be part of an exciting journey with Verisk’s newly acquired business in Canada, Opta. Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner in the Verisk US team, this role requires communicating timely and accurate info to stakeholders and employees within multiple business areas in Canada and the US.
The ideal candidate will have a strong functional background and good organizational skills, acting as the HR point of contact to Opta employees and managers in Canada, and a liaison to ensure company processes and employment requirements (federal and provincial) are met while maintaining business continuity and strong employee morale, while building a strong infrastructure. Responsibilities for the HR role will include: 

  • Provide day-to-day management of HR operations; support to managers and employees, sharing info with HR groups to align with company goals and business needs. 

  • Administration and communication of HR programs, applying business and labor law knowledge to support with performance management guidance to line managers in Canada (e.g., coaching, counseling, terminations, career development, disciplinary actions, education, training programs, and more). 

  • Responsible for the employee data load and validation of the data for accuracy in different HCM systems (run reports, compare data, perform due diligence, etc.). Knowledge of Workday and/or PeopleSoft would be ideal, but not required. 

  • . Apply knowledge of Canada Employment Laws for citizenship and immigration to help the organization comply with any right to employ requirements. 

  • First point of contact for employee relations and employee questions. Strong knowledge and an understanding of employment related legislation in Canada. Provides risk mitigation advice on people impacts to the business with guidance from the HR, management and leads all employee litigations (full cycle). Facilitates, acts as company representative in all employees legal proceedings as requested. Leads all employee investigation activities using investigation protocol (formal & informal). 

  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information. 

  • Provide HR operational support for critical HR systems that enable data management, workforce planning / hiring, and benefits administration. 

  • May need to interact with external Benefits vendors to submit and maintain employee data accurate, guide employees during benefits enrollment, share benefits policies/processes and specific coverages. May be requested to provide reports or employee files for payroll processing. 

  • Communicate status to corporate HR, management, and employees such as for termination of benefit plans, leaves, vacation, and statutory holidays. 

  • Monitor, reinforce, implement and/or enhance local and global HR programs as requested. Monitor, track and analyze metrics in partnership with the larger Verisk HR function or as directed. 

  • Work closely with the US and the Canadian teams such as corporate functions, management, and employees to monitor and improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention with minimum business disruption. 

  • Be an enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to deploy and reinforce company philosophies and practices, and to ensure a prevailing positive work environment. 

  • Work on special projects such as acquisition and integration of newly acquired businesses. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology or equivalent relevant industry experience required. 

  • Minimum of 4-5 years' hands on experience working as a Human Resources Professional such as Generalist, Specialist or similar capacity. 

  • Fluency in English and French Canadian are required. 

  • Superior oral and written communication. Ability to adjust communication style based on the audience in both languages English and French Canadian. 

  • Conducts oneself with the highest level of integrity. 

  • Ability to roll up your sleeves to get the job done. Flexible and adaptable / able to multi-task under pressure. Excellent time management. 

  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times. 

  • Engage with the Business - create and build solid relationships within client groups 

  • Strong background in the Canadian employment/labor laws, statutory requirements, and benefits administration knowledge is required. 

  • Experience supporting a global organization with international, regional and/or functional business needs. Ability to interact with global teams. 

  • Strong demonstration of analytical and administrative skills; ability to prepare reports or presentations using Microsoft office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel). 

  • Strong interpersonal/collaboration/influencing skills. Ability to work within constraints, delivering work with expected quality, while interacting and supporting stakeholders at all levels. 

  • Experience with HR operations and management of employee job data. Knowledge of Workday and/or PeopleSoft is desired. 

  • Demonstrated experience in the HR life cycle such as HRIS management, recruitment, on-boarding and off-boarding. performance management, and more. 

  • Ability to manage competing, high-priority demands; prioritize workloads, and manage projects and multiple responsibilities against strict deadlines. 

  • HR professional certifications preferred, but not required. 

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management or the business.
