Job Summary
The HR & Safety Specialist is responsible for coordinating, facilitating, and supervising the facility's Safety and Human Resources programs and initiatives in partnership with local management and corporate leadership, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements while promoting a safe, productive, and positive work environment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain employee files and ensure HR records are accurate, current, and confidential.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and company policies.
- Conduct facility safety inspections and ensure compliance with safety policies and PPE requirements.
- Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, and promote safety programs.
- Conduct new hire safety orientation and employee safety training.
- Ensure adequate first aid/CPR coverage and medical supplies. Manage PPE, first aid, and other safety supply inventories.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections, fire inspections, and compliance programs.
- Manage hearing conservation and other occupational health programs.
- Coordinate and maintain safety committee activities.
- Coordinate return-to-work and restricted-duty assignments.
- Conduct and certify all forklift training.
- Coordinate regulatory inspections, fire inspections, and compliance programs.
- Communicate with management, medical providers, and claims administrators regarding workplace injuries and claims.
- Prepare safety metrics and reports as required.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
- Minimum high school graduate.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- 5+ years Work Experience in Payroll and Human Resources administration required.
- 5+ years Work Experience in Safety or Woodworking operations.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Successful completion of OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Proficiency in use of computer and business-related software, including Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
- Ability to build and sustain confidence and credibility at all levels.
- Understanding of ERP fundamentals.
- Must be able to work independently while multi-tasking.
- Ability to express oneself professionally utilizing both verbal and written communications with all organizational levels.
- Ability to be mobile in the work environment.
- Organizational skills and a team player mentality is critical.
