We're looking for a HR Generalist who will provide broad operational support across the employee lifecycle, initially focusing on recruiting, onboarding, routine benefits and leave administration, and HRIS maintenance and reporting. This is a higher-capability generalist role requiring strong foundational HR knowledge, systems aptitude, and attention to detail, with the capacity to cross-train across multiple HR functions over time. This role will sit onsite at our Elmhurst, IL dealership.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Own the administrative workflow for recruitment from candidate selection through orientation, including coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates and hiring managers, and maintaining data integrity in HR systems.
  • Facilitate and monitor the preemployment process by initiating the appropriate screens (e.g., background checks, drug screens, MVRs, etc.) and escalating any nonconformities.
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding and orientation with appropriate stakeholders, partnering with the HR team to complete required documentation and deliver a welcoming first-day experience.
  • Support the coordination and execution of recruiting events, school and community events, hiring campaigns, and acquisition-related hiring or onboarding activity.
  • Administer routine benefits enrollment, life-event, termination, and employee-change transactions according to established procedures.
  • Provide standard forms, instructions, and process guidance to employees regarding Company benefits, routing questions requiring plan interpretation or judgment to the Benefits Specialist.
  • Send and track leave forms and documentation, maintain leave files, monitor dates and deadlines, and follow up on missing documentation.
  • Support open-enrollment administration, by assisting with employee communications, meeting logistics, records, and data validation.
  • Enter and maintain employee data in the HRIS, including new hires, status changes, transfers, promotions, pay-related changes as authorized, and terminations.
  • Review HRIS transactions for effective dates, completeness, supporting documentation, and data accuracy, and support acquisition employee-data collection and HRIS conversion activities.
  • Run and distribute standard HR reporting for key metrics or processes (e.g., headcount, turnover, employee status, benefits, and recruiting) and support data audits and reconciliations.
  • Develop working knowledge of the payroll calendar, employee data flow, timekeeping, pay codes, deductions, and common payroll corrections, progressing toward serving as a secondary payroll-processing resource.
  • Support HR projects, audits, acquisitions, policy rollouts, employee communications, and other cross-functional initiatives as assigned.
  • Document recurring workflows and contribute to scalable HR processes, checklists, controls, and standard operating procedures.

Education and/or required experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant HR experience may be considered.
  • At least 2-5 years of Human Resources experience, with exposure to recruiting/onboarding, HRIS, benefits, payroll, or general HR operations.
  • Prior HR Generalist, HR Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator, Benefits/HR Operations, or similar experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with an HRIS required.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, with comfort learning systems, reports, and data processes.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or interest in pursuing HR certification preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide professional employee and candidate support.
  • High attention to detail, strong follow-through, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines.
  • Demonstrated discretion and the ability to protect confidential employee, compensation, benefits, medical, and payroll information.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Compensation: $25-$33/hr. Hourly rate will be determined based on experience, competencies, certifications and education.
