Position Description:

The HR Generalist will support a broad range of HR functions, including benefits and leave administration, workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, HRIS administration, performance management, employee engagement and recognition, compliance activities, employee separations, reporting, and departmental projects. In addition, this position will have a particular focus on employee relations, performance management, and employee support. The HR Generalist will serve as a resource to employees and managers by providing guidance on HR policies and procedures, workplace concerns, performance expectations, corrective action, and other employment-related matters. Working collaboratively with the HR team and organizational leaders, the HR Generalist helps ensure HR programs and processes are administered accurately, consistently, and efficiently while contributing to a positive employee experience and supporting the overall needs of the Human Resources department.
Primary Responsibilities:
General
  • Collaborate with the HR team to enhance operational efficiencies, streamline workflows, and support overall departmental functions.
  • Periodically assess, implement, and maintain a comprehensive employee wellness program.
  • Partner with external providers to ensure accurate and efficient administration of employee benefits.
  • Provide support and guidance to employees regarding leave of absence, including, FML, personal leave,  benefits, and related inquiries.
  • Respond to unemployment claims withing the established timeframes and represent the organization at hearings as needed.
  • Maintain and update employee records within the HRIS system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate worker’s compensation claims from initial reporting through resolution.
  • Coordinate the random drug screening program in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate employee service recognition program, ensuring timely acknowledgement of employee milestones.
  • Plan and assist with coordinating employee events to foster engagement and culture.
  • Assist with HR Compliance activities and onsite audit preparations required by licensing, grant, contract, and other applicable entities.
  • Review and process educational reimbursement requests, securing required documentation and necessary approvals
  • Coordinate employee separation processes, ensuring required documentation, notifications, system updates, and related HR activities are completed timely and accurately.
  • Compile and prepare HR reports as requested.
  • Conduct regular HR audits and review and reconcile vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and appropriate documentation.
Employee Relations
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and managers in navigating the performance management process, including performance expectations, documentation, evaluations, and performance improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze performance management activities and metrics to support timely completion of performance reviews, required discussions, and related documentation.
  • Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding employee relations matters, HR policies and procedures, workplace concerns, performance, conduct, and disciplinary matters.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers regarding employee performance, attendance, conduct, corrective action, and appropriate documentation.
  • Conduct and/or support employee relations inquiries and workplace investigations, including gathering and reviewing information, interviewing involved parties, documenting findings, and assisting with appropriate resolution.
  • Assist with addressing workplace concerns and employee conflicts through consultation, coaching, mediation, and other appropriate employee relations interventions.
  • Identify recurring employee relations concerns and trends and partner with HR leadership to recommend appropriate follow-up, training, or process improvements.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma. 
  • Five (5) years’ experience in an HR Coordinator, HR Generalist, Employee Relations professional or comparable HR role.  
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s in human resources or related field. 
  • SHRM OR PHR certification preferred.  
  • Experience supporting multiple HR functions, such as benefits, leave administration, worker’s compensation, unemployment claims, HRIS administration, compliance, and employee separations preferred.
  • Experience providing employee relations support, performance management, workplace investigations is highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR functions, policies, and practices.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and HRIS/HCM and other business related systems.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations principles, performance management practices, corrective action, conflict resolution, and HR policies and procedures.
  • Ability to coach and advise managers regarding employee performance, conduct, corrective actions and other workplace concerns.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently while maintaining and upholding confidential documentation and information.
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints, manage competing priorities, and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, objective, and professional HR documentation.
  • High attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality.

  • Environment: Office-based
  • Range of Schedule:  Mon – Fri, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Travel: Occasional

Skills Required

  • High school diploma
  • Five years of experience in an HR Coordinator, HR Generalist, Employee Relations professional, or comparable HR role
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field
