Description

About the Position

The HR Generalist is the heartbeat of people operations at Helix: payroll, recruiting, onboarding, benefits, compliance, and employee experience all run through this role. It's a job built on trust: employees need to know you'll get their paycheck right, candidates need to feel welcomed before they've even started, and managers need to know you'll hold the line on process.

Much of the work is behind the scenes; payroll runs, compliance tracking, records that need to be exactly right, week after week. That work rarely gets a spotlight, and it shouldn't need one to matter to you. You'll also be the first face many candidates see and a steady presence employees can count on. Both sides of the role, the quiet precision and the visible care, matter equally here.

You'll inherit established systems, some ready to run as-is, others needing your judgment to improve. As Helix grows, you'll help build what doesn't exist yet.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll accurately and on time, including garnishments, 401(k), and deductions, and own year-end close
  • Track PTO, attendance, and time tracking
  • Manage FMLA, workers' comp, OSHA reporting, and labor law compliance
  • Maintain HRIS records and required documentation
  • Run the full recruiting cycle, from postings through offers
  • Own onboarding and offboarding, including compliance paperwork and exit processing
  • Build relationships with hiring managers, understand their teams and needs, and support them in training and setting expectations, then hold them accountable for their part in onboarding
  • Maintain training records in line with AS9100 standards
  • Administer benefits enrollment and be the go-to for employee benefits questions
  • Be a trusted resource for employees and managers navigating people issues
  • Run the performance review cycle
  • Run the engagement survey and plan company events, from town halls to recognition

Who You Are

  • Detail-oriented, strong follow-through, thrives on getting the details right
  • A self-starter who builds and improves processes without being asked
  • Genuinely excited to work in a manufacturing environment and support the people who make precision manufacturing happen
  • A clear communicator and relationship-builder, trusted from the shop floor to the executive team

What You Bring

  • 3-5+ years in HR generalist or HR operations roles, ideally in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Payroll processing experience, including garnishments and multi-deduction environments
  • Working knowledge of employment law and compliance areas such as I-9, FMLA, and workers' compensation
  • Comfortable navigating HRIS and ATS platforms
  • Experience recruiting: sourcing, screening calls, interview coordination
  • An avid learner who picks up new tools and technology quickly to make processes more efficient
  • Willing to take on a wide range of tasks, big and small, to get the job done
