Position Overview:
The Human Resources Benefits Manager supports the administration, analysis, and ongoing improvement of the company’s employee benefit programs. The role ensures regulatory compliance and provides guidance to employees on benefit options, claims, and leave programs. The position also handles audits, reporting, invoice reconciliation, and communication efforts to help employees understand and use their benefits effectively. The Human Resources Benefits Manager is a key resource for benefits operations, compliance, and excellent customer support across the organization.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research, design, recommend and implement benefit plans that present the best value.
- Serve as the primary contact for plan vendors and administrators related to group healthcare, employer paid, voluntary and worksite benefits, 401k, deferred compensation, and non-traditional benefits.
- Assist in the development of communication tools to enhance understanding of the company’s benefits package; create and conduct presentations.
- Review benefit plans with new hires and employees through email and outreach phone calls or meetings.
- Perform benefit plan audits and recommend cost reduction or containment strategies.
- Assist employees with completing healthcare, voluntary, qualify life events, and COBRA enrollments, beneficiary updates, disability claims, accident and death claims, and other requests as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all state and deferral regulations including ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, etc.
- Assist with preparation of and reporting needs for government and compliance reporting (e.g., 5500, Summary Annual Reports, 1095-C/1094, PCORI, etc.).
- Reconcile healthcare, voluntary and worksite benefits invoices and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensures database are updated with new census information weekly.
- Manage third party administrator relationships, renewals, and agreements including individual stop loss, ASO fees and expenses.
- Manage complex benefits questions and claims with appropriate vendor or health carrier.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate employee records related to paid and unpaid FMLA, Medical and any other Leave.
- Assist in the management of the benefit plan renewal process and negotiation with vendor or administrator for renewal.
- Assist with Workers’ Compensation claims, including but not limited to incident reporting and initial assessment reporting.
- Provide excellent customer support to both internal and external customers.
- Apply effective communication strategies to ensure employees are provided with a thorough response to their needs.
- Keep abreast of new trends and best practices in the field.
- Conduct periodic audits, prepare, and present reports.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, related field, or equivalent experience, preferred.
- 5+ years of advanced experience administering employee benefits.
- Experience with HR software (HRIS) and quantitative and qualitative research.
- Experience in HR operations and knowledge of best practices, preferred.
- Knowledge of Human Resource functions.
- Familiarity with current employment rules and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
