About Rahul Anand, Founder & CEO:
Mr. Rahul Anand is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hopscotch.in, India’s #1 kids fashion brand. He
was born in Mumbai and received a double engineering major from the University of Michigan. After
completing an MBA from Harvard Business School he joined Diapers.com in New York, which was later
acquired by Amazon for $550MM. Post the acquisition, Rahul returned to India and with the backing of
seasoned entrepreneurs like Eduardo Saverin (of Facebook) and Wei Yan, he started Hopscotch. Rahul’s
vision is to make kids’ fashion accessible to every parent in India, irrespective of their socio-economic
background. On a personal front, Rahul is an avid classical pianist and has been playing the piano for over 35
years.

About this role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Java Backend Developer with 1.5+ years of experience in building modern,
scalable backend systems. The role demands strong proficiency in Java 17 and hands-on experience with
backend frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot. You’ll work on distributed systems, cloud-native
services, and real-time applications using a robust technology stack that includes MySQL, Redis,
Elasticsearch, AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS), and more. 

Here’s what will be expected out of youevery day:
• Design and develop backend systems using Java 17, leveraging modern frameworks like Spring and
Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain microservices with high availability, performance, and scalability.
• Model relational data and optimize database interactions using MySQL.
• Implement caching mechanisms using Redis.
• Develop search and indexing features using Elasticsearch.
• Build and expose secure, well-documented RESTful APIs.
• Create serverless workflows with AWS Lambda and expose endpoints using API Gateway.
• Integrate asynchronous messaging using AWS SQS, SNS, and ActiveMQ.
• Use GitHub for source control, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
• Apply a solid understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms to build efficient, maintainable code.

What we want:
• 1.5+ years of hands-on experience in Java backend development, including Java 17.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical
experience).
• Proficient in Spring and Spring Boot.
• Strong command of MySQL, database design, and query optimization.
• Experience with Redis and Elasticsearch.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EC2, S3, and RDS.
• Familiarity with ActiveMQ or similar message brokers.
• Excellent grasp of Data Structures, algorithms, multithreading, and system design.
• Proficient in version control and collaboration using GitHub.

What would be good to have:
• Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with observability and logging tools such as Kibana and Datadog.
• Knowledge of Consul for service discovery and configuration management.
• Practical use of AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude AI to accelerate development, automate
documentation, or assist with code quality and reviews.
• Understanding of API security, rate limiting, and best practices for cloud deployments.
