Description

Edmunds Gastroenterology is currently looking for a team oriented part-time / PRN (as needed) Histology Technician. This candidate will be part of a dynamic team to support our large, privately owned specialty practice. Candidates must display strong organization, attention to detail, and communication skills to ensure an effective lab environment. The candidate should possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and internal laboratory systems.

Job Type: Part Time/ PRN (as needed)

Attire: Scrubs

Responsibilities:

  • Gross and prepare tissue for routine microscopic analysis.
  • Embedding & microtomy
  • Slide staining & cover slipping
  • Demonstrate knowledge of quality safety and compliance programs.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory challenges: processor issues, stain optimization, microtome adjustments, coverslipper maintenance.
  • Supply inventory

Skills:

  • Possess a wide range of knowledge in grossing and histology laboratory techniques.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to file slides or cassettes appropriately.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of microtomy and embedding techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work as a team member and possess a positive attitude, even in high stress situations.
  • Focused and well-organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

Education:

Clinical education in a Histology Technician School (HT) program accredited by NAACLS or 1 year experience preferred.

Associates in a Laboratory Science or Bachelor of Science with minimal 24 combined chemistry and biology credits, per CLIA Guidelines §493.1489 for high complexity testing personnel required. College transcript verification is required.

Experience:

1 year experience in a histology laboratory performing embedding and microtomy.

Licensure:

HT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or eligible preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Abide by all HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA guidelines and laws.
  • Keep annual training such as HIPAA and Bloodborne certificates up to date.
  • Maintain routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and document appropriately.
  • Follow proper procedure for disposal of laboratory waste.

Skills Required

  • Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Bachelor of Science with at least 24 combined chemistry and biology credits (college transcript verification)
  • Clinical education in an NAACLS-accredited Histology Technician (HT) program or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a histology laboratory performing embedding and microtomy
  • Working knowledge of microtomy, embedding, slide staining and cover slipping techniques
  • Experience troubleshooting processors, stain optimization, microtome adjustments, and coverslipper maintenance
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and internal laboratory systems
  • Ability to follow and abide by HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA guidelines and maintain annual training (HIPAA, Bloodborne pathogens)
  • Maintain routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and document appropriately
  • Follow proper procedures for disposal of laboratory waste
