We are searching for a Histology Assistant -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide administrative and technical support the surgical pathology and histology operation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required OR
    • One year of post high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science required
  • 1 year experience in a laboratory setting required
    • One year of post high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science may be substituted for the one year of required experience in a laboratory setting

Responsibilities:

  • Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size and prioritizes workload according to handling protocols defined in section manuals within the established turnaround times
  • Performs required quality control procedures according to the written guidelines in the section procedure manuals as documented on QC log sheets
  • Performs daily maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments
  • Maintains files for special stain and immunohistochemistry request sheets and for AP study sheets and maintains filing systems for blocks and slides
  • Performs mandated reading assignments and reviews and signs off on procedure manuals, communication logs, and memorandums in a timely manner
  • Participates in proficiency testing programs to validate instruments and competency
