Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working from an office in Mason or Columbus, Ohio, or from a home office, with frequent travel required, the High School Principal will help manage staff as they consult regularly with Learning Coaches and students, ensuring that each child successfully completes their instructional program. The principal is responsible for working with the administrative team, parents, students, support staff, and certified teachers who virtually facilitate a home-based student instructional program. The School Principal will spend a majority of their time working with stakeholders on matters of policy, academic outcomes, reporting, and supervision. The high school principal will report to and work with the Lead Principal.

Other key responsibilities include the following:

  • Deliver the academic success and outcomes of the school, based on a list of annual school goals which may include the school’s goals to improve student academic achievement, Connections Academy school focus goals, the framework goals, and the Accountability score on the State Report Card; Oversee the implementation of the proven school curriculum and school operation protocols.
  • Ensure that staff exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support, and customer service by implementing a mission for the school.
  • Assist with ensuring all state reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Exhibit high quality, timely communication with all school staff, students, and families; Comfortable taking on a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated systems-level and/or “big picture” thinking.
  • Skilled in identifying problems and brainstorming potential solutions.
  • Excellent at written and oral communication.
  • Work closely with appropriate Legal Counsel as needed.
  • Work closely with Assistant Principals and POBL staff to implement the core operational model.
  • Work with the administrative team to implement any program changes, processes and procedures.
  • Handle student, parent or teacher issues escalated from other stakeholders,
  • Supervise and evaluate school staff.
  • Provided local support for facilities acquisition and maintenance.
  • Act as the human resources liaison for school staff in the areas of benefits, leave tracking and the maintenance of local files.
  • Act as the technology liaison for teachers and administrative staff.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance and support preparation for legislative and financial audits in collaboration with the Manager of Internal Audits.
  • Monitor all enrollment requirements and communicate requirements to the Enrollment Department.
  • Provide state testing support for all types of test administration including logistics for scheduling and tracking/following up on participation.
  • Support contracting for supplemental student services.
  • Monitor and track all school-based assets.
  • Support the Marketing Department with student outreach, marketing and public relations.
  • Stay current on the state’s policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Be available to handle all emergencies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Active Administrator Endorsement/License required
  • Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to goal-directed management and accountability
  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Experience in managing people
  • Ability to travel frequently (as needed )
  • Customer-focused approach
  • Flexible, ability to transition from task-to-task quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast-paced environment
  • Team player, with ability to work independently
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two-step authentication
