Today, we're a FTSE 250 company driven by our incredible team of over 1,000 Trainliners from 50+ nationalities, based across London, Paris, Barcelona, Milan, Edinburgh and Madrid. With our focus on growth in the UK and Europe, now is the perfect time to join us on this high-speed journey.
Introducing the Trainline Treasury Team 👋
Trainline is a FTSE-listed digital rail and coach platform operating across the UK and Europe, and as the business has grown, our Treasury function has reached an important moment of change. The day-to-day foundations are in place, but there is a real opportunity to modernise, streamline and strengthen how treasury works at our scale. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will take ownership of a function in transition, keeping operations running smoothly while leading a significant programme of change across banking automation and operating model redesign.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building as much as running. You will define what good looks like, sequence and drive the transformation agenda, and help shape the permanent structure once the foundation is set. You will partner closely with the Finance Director and finance leadership peers, work alongside Internal Audit and Operational Finance, and collaborate across banking and systems teams, influencing outcomes across multiple workstreams. You will also onboard and coach an incoming Treasury Analyst, building the team beneath you as the function matures.
In this role as the Interim Head of Treasury, you will...🚄
Own day-to-day treasury operations across the group, including daily liquidity monitoring, cash positioning, FX trading, RCF drawdowns and intercompany payments, giving the Finance Director confidence in a stable and well-run function from day one.
Rebuild the 13-week cashflow forecasting process from the ground up, assessing the right approach and delivering a reliable model that enables daily cash positioning, clear variance commentary and informed RCF recommendations.
Lead the treasury banking automation programme, including D365 integration and new cash management platform go-live, using automation and AI-enabled tooling to remove manual bottlenecks and materially reduce manual payment volumes.
Strengthen the control environment by owning the treasury controls register, leading the Provision 29 governance review and defining a delegation of authority framework.
Embed a coherent suite of treasury and banking policies for Finance Director sign-off, covering FX hedging strategy, counterparty risk, RCF management and payment governance.
Redesign the treasury operating model, agreeing a clear RACI with Operational Finance and transitioning bank reconciliation and nominated activities out of treasury with clean handovers and no control gaps.
Document core treasury processes end to end, removing key-person dependency and building a governance framework that stands up to internal audit scrutiny at year end.
Onboard, coach and develop the incoming Treasury Analyst, and define the future-state treasury team structure, presenting a resourcing recommendation to the Finance Director.
We'd love to hear from you if you have...🔍
A proven track record in corporate treasury at a listed or near-listed company, where you have personally owned the function rather than worked within it.
Demonstrable experience leading treasury transformation, whether through system implementations, operating model redesign, policy build-out or a controls uplift.
A player-manager approach, comfortable delivering the work yourself while building the team and structure beneath you.
Strong expertise in payment controls, fraud risk and governance, with a real motivation for getting the control environment right rather than simply meeting the technical requirement.
Experience building or overhauling cashflow forecasting in a complex operational environment, alongside solid FX (spot and forward), RCF management and bank relationship experience.
The ability to communicate clearly with Finance Director and CFO level stakeholders and laterally across finance teams, influencing outcomes across multiple workstreams without relying on full authority.
The availability to commit to the engagement and start within four to six weeks.
Ideally an ACT qualification such as CertICM or MCT, though we welcome equivalent experience.
It is also helpful if you have worked with D365 or Dynamics treasury modules, corporate banking platforms and SWIFT or SEPA processing, and you may also bring experience of a Provision 29 controls environment
Background in consumer tech, travel or payments would also be desirable
