About the role

The Global Head of Product Safety & Risk Management is a critical enterprise leadership role responsible for defining, governing and continuously improving Dyson’s global Product Safety framework across all product categories, technologies and markets.

Reporting to the Product Safety & Quality Director, this role provides strategic leadership for Product Safety and Product Risk Management, ensuring Dyson products are designed, manufactured and supported to meet the highest standards of safety, compliance and consumer trust.

As Dyson’s most senior Product Safety leader, the role acts as the primary authority and escalation point for product safety matters, partnering with Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Supply Chain and Commercial leaders to ensure safety is embedded throughout the product lifecycle.

The role safeguards Dyson’s reputation through proactive risk identification, robust governance, informed decision-making and the development of a strong safety culture that enables innovation while protecting consumers, employees and the Dyson brand worldwide.

Product Safety Strategy & Governance

  • Define and maintain Dyson's global Product Safety and Product Risk Management strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and emerging technologies.

  • Establish and govern enterprise-wide Product Safety policies, standards and frameworks across all product categories and global markets.

  • Act as the final escalation and decision-making authority for significant product safety risks.

  • Provide independent safety oversight and assurance throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Lead governance forums and safety reviews, ensuring product safety risks are identified, assessed and managed to an acceptable level.

Leadership & Capability

  • Lead, develop and inspire a global team of Product Safety, Risk Management and Functional Safety professionals.

  • Build organisational capability through coaching, succession planning and development of technical expertise.

  • Foster a high-performing culture that promotes accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Champion a consistent global approach to product safety while recognising regional regulatory requirements and market needs.

Product Risk Management (including medical)

  • Ensure robust risk assessment methodologies are consistently applied throughout product development, manufacture and post-market surveillance activities.

  • Drive identification, evaluation and mitigation of safety risks associated with hardware, software, connected products, emerging technologies and manufacturing processes.

  • Ensure effective implementation of safety engineering and risk management practices, including Functional Safety principles where applicable.

  • Provide expert guidance and constructive challenge on complex technical and safety decisions.

Executive Influence & Business Partnership

  • Serve as Dyson’s senior Product Safety authority, advising executive leadership on strategic product safety risks, opportunities and emerging issues.

  • Influence key business decisions through clear communication of risk, compliance obligations and consumer safety considerations.

  • Partner across Engineering, Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and Commercial teams to embed safety into decision-making and drive business performance.

  • Represent Product Safety interests at senior governance forums and executive reviews.

Product Safety Assurance & Market Surveillance

  • Maintain effective systems for monitoring product safety performance throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Lead assessment and escalation of significant in-market safety incidents, complaints, trends and emerging risks.

  • Ensure timely investigation, containment and resolution of product safety concerns.

  • Provide executive reporting and insight on key safety performance indicators, emerging risks and strategic priorities.

About you

Experience & Expertise

  • Extensive experience leading Product Safety, Product Compliance, Risk Management or Quality functions within consumer products, electronics, automotive, medical devices or similarly regulated industries.

  • Deep understanding of global product safety regulations, standards and conformity assessment requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of product risk management methodologies, including FMEA, hazard analysis and lifecycle risk assessment.

  • Experience implementing and improving Quality Management Systems and governance frameworks, including ISO 9001 and associated risk-based approaches.

  • Proven experience managing product safety challenges across complex global organisations.

Leadership & Influence

  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and lead through complexity and ambiguity.

  • Experience leading geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary teams across global locations.
