London (Old Street)

Full-time

4 days/week in office

Why This Role

  • You make product marketing a strategic differentiator, from how we understand our markets through to how Modulr shows up in each of them.
  • You lead the function and own a priority vertical yourself, so you stay close to real buyers rather than managing at a distance.
  • You are hired ahead of your team and you build it.

Who we are

Modulr is the payments automation platform that streamlines money movement with accuracy, control and reliability, built to scale. We process more than 200m transactions and over £180bn in payment value on an annualised basis, and we are trusted by over 6,000 businesses from fast-growing SMEs to global enterprises.

We automate how money moves into and out of a business (payroll, supplier payments, spend management and payment collection) through a single platform, connected to the accounting and payroll systems finance teams already use, and underpinned by principal memberships of Visa and Mastercard and direct access to central bank infrastructure.

As a regulated payments provider with over a decade of experience, we are the platform finance teams trust to run mission-critical operations. Modulr is backed by PayPal, FIS, General Atlantic, Blenheim Chalcot, Frog Capital and Highland Europe, with over 400 employees across London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Mumbai.

The role

You will lead product marketing across a business with several products, multiple priority verticals and two distinct go-to-market motions. In a crowded payments market, the sharper we are on who we serve and why we win, the harder every campaign, every launch and every sales conversation works. That clarity is what this role owns.

There is a product marketer in the team today and further vertical seats to come. You are hired first so that you can define what those roles look like and hire into them, and you will shape how product marketing works alongside demand generation, sales and product.

You will also personally own one of our priority verticals: Travel, Lending, corporate business payments or SME and accountants. Which one depends on where your experience is strongest and where the business needs you most, and we will work that out together. It matters to us that whoever leads this function is in the market themselves, not directing it from a distance.

What you’ll do

Own positioning and the narrative - Define sharp, differentiated positioning grounded in real customer insight and a clear point of view on where we win, and translate a technically rich platform into messaging that lands with finance, operations and commercial buyers.

Define the value proposition for each market - Build a deep understanding of every vertical we serve: who the buyer is, what they are actually trying to solve, the regulatory and competitive context they operate in, and what makes Modulr the right answer for them. Turn that into a value proposition the whole business can articulate.

Talk to customers, constantly - The best messaging comes from the people already buying from us. Run customer conversations, win/loss and voice-of-customer work as a standing habit rather than an annual project, listen to how customers describe the problem and the product in their own words, and feed that language back into our positioning, our content and our sales conversations. We want the market to hear itself when it reads our messaging.

Own a vertical yourself - Carry one priority vertical personally, as the source of truth on its buyers, its competitive landscape and its narrative.

Run launches on a cadence - Own launch planning and tiering, with enablement attached and adoption measured, working closely with product on what gets built and how it reaches the market.

Arm the commercial team - Pitches, decks, demo narratives, battlecards and win stories built from how buyers actually decide, and used because they are good rather than because they exist.

Be the source of truth on the market - Competitive intelligence, buyer journeys and market insight synthesised into a clear read that shapes product, marketing and sales decisions. Be the person leaders come to when they need to understand a market.

Build and lead the team - Define the vertical seats, hire them, and set the bar for craft across the function.

Make AI part of how the team works - Research synthesis, message testing and content production compressed by workflows you build yourself. We will ask you to show us this during the process.

Who you are

  • You own positioning, messaging and launch tiering end to end, and you have built a persona and messaging system out of real customer research rather than internal opinion.
  • You are an exceptional writer and communicator who can make a technically rich product feel simple, differentiated and compelling.
  • You are genuinely curious about customers and you seek them out. You would rather spend an hour on a customer call than a day in a working session.
  • You are credible as the senior voice in a room with product and sales, and you can hold a position under pressure.
  • You judge your work by what it changes downstream: whether sales conversations get easier, whether the right buyers recognise themselves in our messaging, whether a launch lands and gets adopted. Assets that look good and change nothing do not interest you.
  • You have led or mentored other product marketers, and you are ready to build a function rather than join one.
  • You are hands-on. You will lead the team and own a vertical yourself.
  • Real fluency with AI, not just everyday use. You have built and shipped your own workflows and agents. There is an AI component to the exercise you will do with us.
  • B2B is a requirement. Payments, fintech or another regulated and technically complex product is preferred, vertical or industry-led go-to-market experience is a significant plus, as is experience through the £50–150M ARR band.

What We Offer You

  • Share Options – We offer a Company Share Option Plan (CSOP), giving you the opportunity to benefit from any increase in share value in the event of a sale, merger, or flotation.
  • Bonus – Our annual discretionary bonus, paid in May for the previous year, is based on both company and individual performance.
  • Flexible benefits – £1,000 to spend on benefits to suit you, including private medical insurance, gym membership and dental.

  • Holidays – 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays) plus your birthday off. In the UK, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are fixed holidays. You can choose the remaining days to suit your personal schedule.
  • Learning opportunities – Our two-day onboarding programme, ModStart, helps equip you for success. Learning does not stop there; we will continue to support your development through various channels.
  • Company-Wide Events – Participate in collaborative and engaging events with colleagues across the business.
  • Bike to work / E-bike scheme

What We Do

Modulr has grown to become the leading provider of embedded payments to organisations across the UK and Europe. Embedded payments is a new category that permits payments to become part of organisations’ technology stack, upgrading them to become payments companies themselves. Modulr enables over 200 enterprise customers and thousands of SME customers to embed account creation, payment out, reconciliation of payment in, card issuing and many open banking and similar features into their own business process flows via API calls and webhooks into Modulr’s cloud platform. Core to Modulr’s success has been the platform itself, Modulr’s regulatory status as an EMI in the UK and Europe, its connections to payments and other financial service schemes, its ability to operate at scale, and its compliance rigour. Today Modulr handles over £100bn of annualised payment volume and its platform handles, on average, 30 API calls per second
