Job Description

We are going through rapid growth in our global payroll team, and in 2023 we launched our new Payroll Hub in Budapest. Now we are looking for a Head of Payroll Operations with end-to-end understanding of payroll processes and people management experience from both in-house and outsourced payrolls to lead our payroll operations team on the next stage of our exciting journey. 

We always strive for global scalability and modern processes, so we prioritize systems development and automation in every area of the business. With this attitude, we have over the last few years in the People team launched platforms like Workday and Quinyx, while simultaneously transforming our Payroll delivery with a move to a new payroll partner, ADP. Overall, we want to do things in a modern way and would love to find a person who wants to build things for the future, utilizing the latest technology advancement to achieve this.

Based in Budapest, you would have a chance to really contribute to what modern global payroll looks like, with our goal to provide a world class payroll experience to all of our teammates.

What you’ll be doing

  • Team leadership: Above all, lead our payroll operations team of over 25 teammates who are responsible for our payroll delivery for over 30 countries globally, demonstrate thought-leadership for running world-class payroll operations in a global and very fast scaling environment, and empower your leadership team to do the same for their teams.
  • Team development: Own and develop our Payroll Hub operation and location strategy and work with the Head of Global Payroll on our service delivery model ensuring that we maintain sufficient capacity and capability for all payroll processes, and minimizing “single point of failure” risks. Also, ensure our team and processes are “fit for purpose” in our ever-scaling and growing environment, and make sure we are ready for any large-scale increase in business payroll needs.
  • Strategic vendor management: Partner and develop relationships with our outsourced payroll vendors to ensure that our global teammates are paid accurately and on time every pay cycle, and work with the Payroll Vendor Manager to deliver on long-term third-party strategy. 
  • Obsess about employee experience: Deliver a world-class employee payroll experience while resolving any issues that might arise if things go wrong, with prompt corrective actions and root cause analysis as we can make mistakes, but we don't like to repeat them.
  • Payroll Leadership Team Collaborations: Be an active member and Partner with other Payroll Leadership Team members to build a modern, scalable, end-to-end payroll process that integrates HR, payroll, and finance data. Develop global payroll KPIs and service level agreement (SLA) metrics to monitor process health.
  • Master in modern systems and data management: Ensure payroll data integrity across our integrated HR and payroll systems, and lead in the adoption of the latest technology solutions that drive efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: Build payroll policies, practices, and processes that scale for the long term, whilst also considering the impact on the Payroll budget. Overall, operate with a mindset of continuous performance improvement to streamline and automate payroll processes, building with a vision for the future. 
  • Compliance and Risk Management Defender: Uphold high standards for compliance with country regulations to meet payroll and tax obligations. Establish a robust controls framework to detect potential gaps and prevent issues before they occur.
  • Employee Support Excellence: Own how we give help when needed by designing a world-class payroll query and request management system for employees and team leads, addressing all payroll-related needs.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate and manage relationships with internal stakeholders like HR, IT, and Finance.
  • Be our culture champion: Lead and serve your team with Wolt heart and humility.


Qualifications

  • Global Payroll Leader: Demonstrates an extensive understanding and experience in payroll processes, systems, and international operations.
  • Passion for Payroll Technology: Exhibits a strong interest and enthusiasm for advancements in payroll technology and processes.
  • Expertise in Payroll Process Design: Brings substantial hands-on experience in the design and implementation of payroll processes.
  • Global Payroll Systems Knowledge: Experience with using and reshaping global payroll systems, notably Workday or equivalent enterprise HR platforms is highly desirable.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Possesses outstanding communication abilities, with a high level of proficiency in English.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Demonstrates a proactive approach to ownership and problem resolution.
  • Spreadsheet Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment, including adeptness at remote collaboration using digital tools such as Slack and Zoom; comfortable with matrix organizations.
