Be part of our ambitious expansion path to increase production capacities adding a brand new facility to the existing site. We are looking for a Head of Operations (x|f|m) at Sartorius CellGenix GmbH based in Freiburg. In this role, you will be responsible for the biopharmaceutical site operations in three facilities, including GMP Production, Supply Chain Management, Facility Management & Engineering, EHS, OPEX & Program Management. You will be creating a work environment which promotes safety, quality, delivery, cost effective and continuous improvement. Besides, you will oversee and be accountable for all aspects of the site's operations performance as well as being part of the local management team.
The team consists of 50 professionals and will continue to grow significantly. We are looking forward to shaping the future with you. This position is available full-time. The work location will be in Freiburg, at our center of excellence for the development and production of recombinant proteins used as cell culture components in Cell & Gene Therapies.

  • Drive on-time delivery performance and develop actions to improve and sustain a high level of performance

  • Review and analyse production, quality and delivery reports to determine root causes of variance from budget and standards, and develop corrective actions

  • Initiate and execute process variation reduction programs

  • Evaluate new trends and developments in methods, techniques, equipment, tools, materials and supplies, which might be incorporated into the production, quality or supply chain processes, to increase efficiency or better use of resources

  • Coordinate directly, and through delegation, activities required to assure safety, quality, delivery and cost meet specified targets

  • Optimize cost by effective management of labour, overtime and other expenditures

  • Participate in special projects and as a member of the operations network

  • Foster excellent working relationships with customer (audits) and with all the other stakeholders of the company

 What will convince us

  • Academic degree in Life Science, Engineering, Industrial (Bio-)Technology or equivalent

  • Extensive experience in (bio-)pharmaceutical operations, including Upstream- and Downstream processing

  • Ability to apply structured problem-solving methodologies to determine root cause of problems and provide effective countermeasures

  • Experience in improving capacity utilisation and productivity improvement

  • Several years proven and effective leadership and management skills

  • Business fluency in English and German, both verbal and written

  • Great self-management skills to take on high level objectives and manage on a day-to-day basis without the need for constant direction

  • Flexibility, the ability to respond to changes quickly and positively

  • Open mindedness, to look at situations from different viewpoints, and remain positive

  • Creativity, free thinking and the ability to solve problems in new and inventive ways
