PeopleCert is looking for a Head of Learning to join the Language Portfolio department. LanguageCert’s Head of Learning is responsible for designing and implementing the AO’s educational strategy. They will engage in materials development and commissioning. The role focuses on ensuring the highest quality standards in educational programmes and instructional methods that align with LanguageCert’s mission and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will oversee the design and implementation of teaching materials, teacher training, and evaluation frameworks, ensuring that learners are guided towards language acquisition with rigor and consistency.

As a Head of Learning your tasks will include the following:

  • Lead the design, development, and updating of English language curricula and syllabi.
  • Monitor trends in language teaching methodologies and assessments, ensuring that learning products are fit for purpose.
  • Oversee the implementation of teacher training programmes and professional development initiatives.
  • Develop resources and materials for teachers and learners that are aligned with best practices in English language teaching (ELT).
  • Manage the quality assurance process for all learning programmes, ensuring compliance with awarding body standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Work with senior leadership to align learning strategies with organisational goals.

What we look for:

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field. A PhD is preferred.
  • Recognised English language teaching qualifications.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in English language education, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within an awarding organisation or similar.
  • Proven experience in curriculum and assessment development for language examinations.
  • Demonstrable experience with regulatory bodies and quality assurance processes within the education sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of English language teaching methodologies and assessment practices.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms and educational technologies is an advantage.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Native or excellent command of the English language (C2 level certification is required, LanguageCert C2 LTE or C2 IESOL certificate would be a plus).
  • Advanced computer literacy is required. ECDL Advanced level certification is desirable.

Working on Home Office (HO) Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Any person who is engaged by PeopleCert to work on the SELT service must undergo a Background Check (the results of which must be acceptable to PeopleCert and the HO) prior to commencing their SELT duties. All SELT personnel will be required to complete a declaration (provided by PeopleCert) where the existence of any criminal record and/or bankruptcy must be declared.

If working on the SELT service in the UK, background checks will include:

  • A basic or enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Right to Work in the UK check (including nationality, identity and place of residence)
  • HO security check (Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)
  • Financial background check
  • Employment reference check.
  • If working on the SELT service anywhere in the world (outside of the UK) personnel will undergo background checks that are equivalent to those stated for the UK.

In addition, if personnel are required to speak to SELT candidates they must be appropriately skilled in the English language and, where SELT services are provided anywhere in the world (outside of the UK), the official language of the relevant country.
