Job Purpose:
The Head of Financial Reporting will lead the financial reporting function across TMHCC European legal entities, ensuring high-quality statutory, regulatory and financial reporting, timely external audit delivery, and robust governance over reporting controls. The role manages a team of up to 10, and acts as the primary relationship owner for the Group audit.
The role requires a collaborative, agile and credible senior finance leader who can engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, provide technical accounting leadership, and support strategic change across a complex, regulated insurance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting, Governance & Regulatory Oversight- Act as owner of UK GAAP accounting policy and partner with Corporate Accounting on US GAAP policy interpretation and implementation.
- Lead technical accounting papers and position papers for significant transactions, acquisitions, restructurings and complex accounting matters.
- Monitor emerging accounting, regulatory and reporting developments, assessing impact on the business.
- Monitor regulatory capital requirements and support senior management decision making through insightful analysis and reporting.
- Prepare and oversee Board, Audit Committee and Executive Committee reporting on financial reporting and regulatory matters.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of regulatory returns
- Drive automation, process standardisation, simplification and enhanced reporting controls to support strategic finance change.
- Develop trusted partnerships with Finance, Risk, Actuarial, Compliance, Operations, Executive Management, external auditors and regulators.
- Influence decision making through high-quality insight, technical accounting expertise and clear communication at Executive and Board level.
- Lead audit engagement and ensure actions, findings and recommendations are appropriately addressed and embedded.
- Act as the recognised subject matter expert for legal entity reporting, accounting policy and regulatory reporting matters.
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing reporting team aligned to TMHCC’s strategic objectives.
- Set clear accountability, objectives and performance expectations, supported by coaching, mentoring and career development.
- Lead succession planning, capability development and resource planning to reduce key-person dependency and build resilience.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, wellbeing, inclusion, continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Skills and Experience Specification:
Essential:
- Qualified accountant, preferably ACA, with significant post-qualification experience in general insurance, either within industry or a major accountancy firm.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and US GAAP; experience of Solvency UK / Solvency II and IFRS beneficial.
- Proven experience managing external audits, statutory reporting and regulatory reporting in a complex financial services environment.
- Strong leadership capability, including team development, stakeholder management, executive communication and Board-level influence.
- Advanced Excel, financial modelling, analytical judgement and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Experience of Lloyd’s and London Market reporting or a multinational insurance group.
- PeopleSoft and NVision experience
- Experience leveraging AI, automation or advanced analytics to improve finance reporting, controls and process efficiency.
- Understanding of AI governance, data management and technology-related risks within a regulated financial services environment.
