Your mission is to build a unified, multi-modal billing platform that seamlessly integrates traditional seat-based models with modern, value-based consumption models. This platform is the "monetization backbone" that converts every customer interaction-from a Jira seat to an AI-powered Rovo credit-into accurate, transparent, and compliant revenue.
Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
- Platform Modernization: Transition the Commerce Cloud Platform (CCP) from a seat-centric system to a flexible, meter-agnostic engine capable of handling high-concurrency usage events and complex financial settlements.
- Enterprise Readiness: Deliver "hardened" commerce capabilities for our largest customers, including aggregate quoting, threshold-based invoicing, and advanced credit management.
- Financial Integrity & Compliance: Ensure 100% accuracy in revenue recognition (MRR/ARR) and downstream finance integrations. You will own the systems that interface with Stripe and internal financial reporting tools.
- AI-Native Transformation: Drive the adoption of AI within the platform itself-leveraging AI for automated testing of complex commerce scenarios, anomaly detection in billing, and optimizing the "Usage Event - Invoice" pipeline.
- Operational Excellence: Manage Tier 1 external-facing services where downtime directly impacts Atlassian's ability to transact. You will instill a culture of "zero-error" engineering and high-availability architecture.
- Executive Influencing: As a key leader in Commerce organization, you will represent the platform's roadmap to C-level stakeholders, ensuring engineering capacity aligns with Atlassian's strategic monetization goals.
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. We follow consistent hiring practices and account for each candidate's skills, knowledge, and experience when setting base pay within the range.
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
- Global Scale Leadership: 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role at a global, hyper-scale technology organization. You have successfully led large, multi-layered engineering departments (50+ people) through managers and senior technical leaders.
- Monetization & Billing Expertise: Deep domain expertise in building and scaling Enterprise-grade Billing, Payments, or Commerce Platforms. You have a proven track record of architecting systems that support diverse pricing models, including Seat-based, Usage/Consumption-based, Ramp, and Flex models.
- High-Stakes Execution: Experience managing Tier 1, business-critical services where system reliability and financial accuracy are paramount. You understand the rigor required to manage platforms that power billions in annual revenue with "zero-error" tolerance.
- Strategic Platform Transformation: Demonstrated success in leading major organizational and technical shifts, such as transitioning a company's core business model or modernizing legacy monetization infrastructure into a flexible, multi-modal engine.
- Education: BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
