Head of Data

Sauce is a premier restaurant technology platform that helps businesses grow with our Commission-Free Delivery & Pickup structure and proprietary delivery optimization technology. We are serving a 105 billion dollar US local restaurant business. Headquartered in NYC and Tel-Aviv, Sauce wants restaurants to fulfill their highest potential, this means giving local establishments everything they need to connect directly with their customers. The Sauce team pools together decades of restaurant tech experience, along with seasoned tech, sales, marketing, product and operations executives who produce an industry-changing delivery system for successful local restaurants and chains.

We are seeking a Head of Data to lead and grow our data capabilities from the ground up at Sauce, a fast-growing food delivery tech startup. This role will oversee both the Business Intelligence (BI) and Business Analytics (BA) departments and will be responsible for establishing the company’s data strategy, data infrastructure, and processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, analytics, and leadership, with a proven track record of building data teams and driving data-driven decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

This person will report directly into our VP of Product. If based in Israel or New York City, this will be a hybrid role with 2-3 days in office each week. Outside of these markets, the role would be remote / work from home.

What You'll Do:

• Develop and lead both the BI and BA teams, including recruiting, hiring, and mentoring team members who will serve all company departments.
• Own the Data: Own the entire company data, from development to consumption, including data architecture and quality control.
• Build Data Infrastructure: Design a scalable data system from scratch to support business growth as well as enhance our existing processes.
• Enable Self-Service Analytics: Empower teams with dashboards and tools to access insights independently, ensuring data is easily accessible across the organization.
• Drive Business Impact: Use prescriptive analytics to inform key business decisions, improve operational efficiency, customer insights, and product performance.
• Experimentation & Insights: Lead deep-dive analysis and develop a culture of experimentation to measure the impact of product and business decisions.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with teams across product, marketing, and operations to align data strategy with business goals.

What You Bring:

• 8+ years in data analytics, BI, or data science, with leadership experience.
• Proven experience in building and scaling data teams from scratch, preferably in a startup or fast-growing tech environment. The ideal scenario looks like this.
• Proven ability to build and scale data teams in a fast-paced, startup environment.
• Expertise in BI tools (e.g., Superset, Databricks, Looker) and data platforms (e.g., Snowflake).
• Strong SQL, Python/R skills, and hands-on experience with data modeling.
• Experience implementing data strategies that lead to measurable business growth.
