Ericsson is seeking a Head of Communications, Americas to lead our communications efforts across the United States, Canada, and Latin America. In this strategic role, you will shape and execute external and internal communications strategies that elevate Ericsson's brand and support our business objectives across a diverse and evolving market.
As the Head of Communications, Americas, you will lead a high-performing team and oversee media relations, social media, executive communications, and employee communications strategies for Ericsson across the Americas.
You will build and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, expand Ericsson's presence in non-traditional press outlets to support policy, regulatory, and government advocacy priorities, and develop communications programs that strengthen Ericsson's reputation and thought leadership across the region.
As communications continues to evolve through advancements in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, you will play a key role in shaping how Ericsson leverages AI to enhance communications strategy, content development, audience insights, measurement, and team effectiveness. You will help define new ways of working that combine human creativity, sound judgment, and emerging technologies to increase the impact and efficiency of communications across the Americas.
Additionally, you will lead internal communications efforts, ensuring alignment with company values, ethical standards, and business priorities while fostering a strong and connected Ericsson culture across diverse markets. A critical part of your role will be managing communications around complex and sensitive issues, ensuring Ericsson's voice remains trusted, consistent, and aligned with our values during both opportunities and challenges.
You will serve as a trusted communications advisor to regional leaders, including the Head of the Americas, CTO, Head of the People Team, and other senior business leaders, while partnering closely with Marketing to align communications strategies with business objectives. The Head of Communications reports to the CMO, Head of Marketing and Communications for Market Area Americas.
This role is ideal for a leader who enjoys shaping narratives, advising senior executives, building thought leadership, and navigating complex communications challenges. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing strategy with execution while influencing business outcomes across multiple countries and cultures. They will be energized by the evolving role of AI in communications and excited by the opportunity to apply emerging technologies to strengthen storytelling, engagement, operational effectiveness, and business impact.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Leading a team of highly skilled communicators.
- Developing strategic communications plans to support Ericsson Americas' business objectives.
- Driving proactive media relations plans and activities, including media pitches, bylined articles, and blogs, in support of business successes and executive thought leadership.
- Supporting customer units' and global business areas' news announcements and press releases, with a focus on regional adaptation.
- Coaching spokespeople, executives, and subject matter experts for media interviews, speaking engagements, and external events.
- Managing relationships with public relations and social media agencies, including oversight of related budgets.
- Overseeing the regional employee communications program, including all-employee meetings, leadership communications, newsletters, articles, and intranet content tailored to diverse regional audiences.
- Leading employee communications campaigns focused on strategy, ethics, compliance, transformation, and other business priorities.
- Providing communications counsel and guidance to executives during issues and crises, including compliance-related matters across the Americas.
- Developing and overseeing strategy and content for regional social media channels across the Americas.
- Supporting executive thought leadership through earned media, speaking engagements, and executive social media platforms.
- Driving increased employee social media advocacy.
- Leading Government Policy and Advocacy (GPA) communications efforts.
- Developing and implementing crisis communications strategies to effectively manage and mitigate business and reputational risks.
- Evolving the Communications team toward human-led AI operations, enhancing team output through new digital workflows, AI-enabled processes, and emerging agent capabilities.
- Building AI capability across the Communications team through coaching, experimentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning, fostering a culture of curiosity and innovation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
- 15+ years of communications experience, including expertise in media relations, executive communications, social media, and employee communications.
- Proven people leadership experience with a strong track record of coaching and developing talent.
- Experience in the telecommunications and/or technology industry is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional storytelling, writing, editing, presentation, and media relations skills.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing sensitive issues, high-profile communications challenges, and crisis communications.
- Strong understanding of how AI and emerging technologies can be leveraged to enhance communications strategy, content development, audience insights, measurement, and team effectiveness.
- Experience leading organizational change, adoption of new technologies, or communications transformation initiatives is preferred.
- Creative thinker with strong business judgment and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a diverse, fast-paced, and matrixed environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines.
- Multilingual capabilities are a plus, especially Spanish, Portuguese, or French.
Position is located in Plano, TX. Ericsson works under a hybrid model, with employees spending at least 60 percent of their time in the office.
