Working as part of a cross-functional team, you are an internally recognized expert in a critical technical area for the R&D process development function. You identify, define and solve complex technical and business problems by applying your broad technical and in-depth knowledge. You oversee the delivery of assigned programs, support new programs/platforms linked to business objectives and use your expertise in your technical area when interacting with senior management and global cross-functional teams to help deliver on current and future demands of the business.
How you will contribute
- Lead a team of three engineers with responsibilities across site capital investment, process equipment maintenance strategy, and ownable biscuit IP die design.
- Lead 3-5 contractors that will execute infrastructure and process equipment capital projects, defining priorities, managing relationships, and negotiating contracts to ensure Mondelez's best interests.
- NA R&D Capex Facilitator (X-Category SPOC) responsible for tracking and planning.
- Define site strategies for pilot plant capability for safety, quality, improvements, and infrastructure.
- Partner with Engineering Operations leads to providing engineering solutions for the Biscuit /Jellies process/product that unlock capabilities and identify enabling technologies.
- Partners with Facilities Management to assist in the development and maintenance of on-site infrastructure needs.
- Accountable for tracking and maintaining site budgets.
- Partners with HSE Lead on safety needs.
- Partners with the Quality Lead to ensure adherence to all HACCP and Quality Procedures (QPs).
- Partners with Finance and Accounting to manage Capital budgets, ensuring CAPEX and OPEX are spent in accordance with the company's capital policies.

What you need to know about this position:
Team Management: • Lead, coach, and develop opportunities for Pilot Plant Engineers (Process and Automation Controls).• Provide technical leadership and guidance on automation and mechanical projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.• Cultivates a collaborative and high-performance team environment.• Sets clear performance expectations, provides regular feedback, and conducts performance reviews.• Manages team workload, prioritizes projects, and allocates resources effectively.
Capital Project Management: • Accountable for infrastructure and process equipment for capital projects, coordinating contractors and internal teams.• Create business proposals to secure capital funding for Pilot Plant improvements and investments.• Manage budgets, purchase orders, invoices, and vendor relationships.
Documentation & Reporting: • Accountable for accurate records of maintenance activities, capital projects, and automation system configurations.• Prepare and present project updates to leadership and stakeholders.
Technical Expertise & Problem Solving: • Provides technical leadership support to the maintenance team, helping prioritize efforts for complex equipment issues.• Accountable for mechanical and electrical work performed by contractors and electricians, ensuring compliance with all work permit policies.• Coordinate with other departments to resolve equipment and infrastructure issues.• Implement and maintain an emergency disaster recovery plan for critical equipment.

Education/Certifications:
BS in Chemical/Mechanical/Food Engineering
Job specific requirements:• +8 years of experience• Strong technical foundation and an elevated level of technical curiosity.• Comfortable with ambiguity to define the mission, scope, and objectives of projects and programs.• Ability to understand and work on a general awareness level.
o AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
o Microsoft Office - Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
o Become familiar with learning budget software management tools: SAP, Coupa, Tungsten• Ability to interact effectively with outside vendors, production operators, team leads, and maintenance of trades.• Ability to read and understand schematics.• Nice to have:
o Project management certifications, such as the PMP or PM certifications from an accredited school.
o Basic understanding and/or open to learning about motors, VFDs, electrical panels, etc.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Whippany, NJ.
The base salary range for this position is $106,300 to $146,200; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
