Summary
Oversees actuaries in maintaining actuarial reporting systems and analysis of actuarial reports. Responsible for recommendations from area. Renders annual statement opinions and provides signature approval.
Description
Directs the preparation of monthly and quarterly actuarial reports. Ensures the accuracy of reporting and recommendations. Oversees profitability analysis and determination of appropriate level and rates for various lines of business. Reviews rating bureau changes, making premium comparisons with competing companies and adjusting prior company experience to reflect future contingent liabilities for the purpose of pricing a revision to an existing product or rate level. Develops actuarial computer models and technically supports the actuarial staff.
Ensures correct preparation of rate filings and other submissions to state regulatory authorities. Completes ad hoc reporting for financial and insurance data by state insurance departments and provides input to state insurance departments on proposed legislation.
Responsible for hiring, performance, coaching training, and addressing staff disciplinary concerns. Works with subordinates to support development and review of work.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other related field.
Required Work Experience: 10 years-actuarial experience; Prior team lead, supervisor, or management experience OR equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above (may be concurrent).
Required Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of actuarial principles, procedures, and regulations. Strong mathematical and analytical skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize. Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion. Strong analytical, problem solving, and model development skills. Good judgment.
Required Software and Other Tools: Microsoft Office.
Required Licenses and Certificates: Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society or the Society of Actuaries.
Preferred Work Experience: 10 years-actuarial and information technology experience.
Preferred Software and Other Tools: Computer programming skills.
Work Environment: Typical office environment.
