Job Description:
As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineer, you will create innovative tooling solutions that enable Airbus customers to perform specific maintenance actions required to keep their aircraft fleet airworthy.
In this role, you will develop GSE solutions that provide Airbus customers with a best-in-class experience regarding safety, ergonomics, and practicality, while also prioritizing recyclability and affordability.
The GSE Designer reports operationally to the Head of Ground Support Equipment Engineering - SIM India.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design DevelopmentCustomer Requirements: Analyze and understand customer needs/requirements that influence final tool designs.
Mechanical & Tooling Design: Perform concept studies, trade-off studies, and final detailed designs for allocated GSE, leveraging a strong background in mechanical engineering.
Digital Mock-Up (DMU) Integration: Initiate tool developments using the aircraft DMU, adapting designs from concept to production drawings and user guides while factoring in Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design to Cost (DTC) principles.
Prototyping & Testing: Accountable for organizing GSE prototyping, physical testing, and First Article Inspection (FAI).
Release & Documentation: Accountable for releasing final GSE deliverables and customer support documentation at the end of the production cycle.
End-to-End Ownership: Lead and take complete ownership of projects within your perimeter, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
Cross-Project Leadership: Demonstrate strong project management skills to drive not only your assigned projects but also guide and support complementary team initiatives.
Risk & Financial Management: Proactively identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and manage end-to-end forecasting (including lead times, costs, and resource allocation).
Stakeholder Management: Effectively collaborate with key stakeholders, including Airbus program managers, external manufacturers, OEMs, and customer support teams.
Process Improvement & AI Integration: Leverage modern tools—including Artificial Intelligence (AI)—to optimize engineering workflows, improve process efficiency, and drive innovation within the GSE domain.
Education: Bachelor’s (BE/B.Tech) or Master’s degree (5-year engineering degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
Technical & Tooling Expertise:
Proven hands-on tooling design and development experience within an Airline, MRO, or Aerospace OEM environment.
Strong mechanical engineering foundation (statics, dynamics, materials, and CAD/DMU design).
Regulatory & Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of manufacturing standards, tooling regulations, and general aircraft maintenance and operations procedures.
Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated capability in forecasting end-product costs, including raw materials, manufacturing overheads, and supply chain factors.
Soft Skills: Excellent negotiation, influencing, and persuasion skills with an assertive, communicative, and collaborative interpersonal style.
Languages: Advanced proficiency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
Familiarity or working knowledge in Electronics, Robotics, and IoT applied to smart tooling or automated GSE solutions.
Hands-on experience applying AI tools or automation scripts to engineering and process management workflows.
