The Grants Specialist assumes primary responsibility of SVDP’s private grants portfolio, including identifying prospects, developing proposals, submitting applications, and completing reports. The Grants Specialist will also manage NetSuite data entry, and complete administrative tasks within the Grants Department. The Grants Specialist will report to the Director of Grant Funding.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Proposal Development
- Conduct and record prospect research and identify government, corporate, and foundation prospects, adding prospects to NetSuite.
- Write, edit, and proofread grant proposals, including, but not limited to, researching information and data on relevant issues for inclusion in proposals and working with relevant SVDP staff to draft and update proposal narratives.
- Assemble proposals in accordance with funding source instructions, including collecting required documents, attachments, and copies for timely submission.
- Grant Administration
- With the Director and Assistant Director, monitor grant awards and contracts to ensure accurate tracking of contract status and reporting deadlines.
- Coordinate the timely submission of grant reports, including collecting all relevant information needed from SVDP staff and communicating with private grants contacts as needed.
- Manage routine communication by email, phone, or written correspondence with private funders.
- Ensure all Grant awards, information, contacts, notes, team actions, deadlines, and correspondence are recorded and tracked accurately in NetSuite.
- Stewardship and Cultivation
- Conducts regular outreach and communication with existing and potential funders to build relationships.
- Proactively provides updates to funders about programs being funded and the SVDP organization.
- Attends events where funders are present to build contacts and strengthen relationships.
- Coordinates with the Development Department on stewardship actions and relationship-building with private funders.
- Assist with miscellaneous writing requirements as needed, such as drafting cover letters and acknowledgement letters.
- Work with the Assistant Director to ensure that application content to consistent across private and government grants.
- Provide administrative support to the Grants Department including schedule coordination, meeting preparation, organization and maintenance of all grant-related electronic and hard copy files, and all other support as directed.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
- Bachelor’s Degree, with previous grant writing experience, strongly preferred.
- Associate’s Degree, with 2 years’ grant writing experience, required.
- Experience in Grant Writing, Fundraising, Proposal Development, or related field preferred.
- Highly proficient computer skills and the use of Microsoft Office,
- Excellent writing skills.
- Work, volunteer, or internship experience in Human Services field preferred
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent oral, written, and computer skills
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Job requires travel between multiple sites. Employee must have access to reliable transportation. Valid Maryland Driver’s license and adequate insurance coverage is required
