Organization Overview: Recovery Network of Programs is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering high-quality substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health services across Fairfield County. With approximately 400 employees and an annual operating budget of $35 million, we serve thousands of individuals and families each year. Grants and contracts make up 42% of our total revenue ($14.6 million) and are funded by a diverse portfolio of approximately 25 federal, state, and local grants—ranging from large, multi-year federal awards to smaller contracts.

Position Summary The Grant Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, compliance, and sustainability of our grant-funded programs. Reporting to the CFO, this position is responsible for the full-cycle post-award financial management of our $14.6 million grant portfolio as well as grant budgets for new grant submissions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and experienced in nonprofit grant accounting, with a strong understanding of federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and the unique funding environment of behavioral health services.

  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures, providing monthly variance analysis and forecasts to program directors and senior leadership.

  • Perform monthly reconciliations of grant-related balance sheet and income statement accounts; maintain complete and audit-ready grant files and supporting documentation.
  • Support the annual financial audit, single audit state audit, and any funder-specific audits or site visits.
  • Assist with grant-related year-end closings, carryover requests, and final financial reports.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to program staff on grant financial management, allowable costs, and documentation standards.
  • Participate in proposal budget development and pre-award financial reviews as needed.
  • Stay current on changes in nonprofit accounting standards, grant regulations, and behavioral health funding requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SUD, mental health, or federally funded behavioral health programs (e.g., SAMHSA, DMHAS, CSSD).
