Summary:
We are seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer to join our team supporting AWS GovCloud environments and business-critical applications. This full-time role is responsible for day-to-day cloud operations, server administration, incident resolution, change management, problem management, patching, monitoring, and security compliance in a regulated environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on AWS experience, proficiency in Windows and/or Linux server administration, and the ability to independently own a portfolio of work and projects from defining the approach through execution, while collaborating with internal and vendor teams to maintain reliable operations and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support the deployment, configuration, and management of AWS GovCloud infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, etc.).
- Monitor the health, performance and utilization of the AWS GovCloud environments, respond to alerts and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Perform patching, upgrades, maintenance and routine operational tasks through approved change management processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues involving compute, storage, networking, DNS, IAM and application connectivity.
- Support incident management, root cause analysis and problem resolution within SLA expectations.
- Maintain compliance with security and operational standards, including administrative account control, patch status, services and logging.
- Work with cross-functional teams and vendor teams to coordinate fixes, maintenance and escalations.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all configurations and procedures.
- Identify and implement operational improvements, including automation and process refinement where appropriate.
- Identify, propose and implement cost-optimization improvements.
- Independently own a portfolio of work and projects, from defining the approach through execution.
- Support audit activities by gathering findings and creating and providing documentation in accordance with audit requirements.
- Participate in a rotating weekly on-call schedule.
Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience supporting AWS environments.
- Proficiency in Windows and/or Linux server administration.
- Solid understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure concepts, including compute, storage, networking, security groups, DNS and IAM.
- Familiarity with security and compliance controls in a regulated environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across infrastructure and application layers.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on routine tasks and projects.
- Must be a US citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting regulated, government, or highly controlled cloud environments.
- Previous audit experience, including gathering findings and creating and providing documentation in accordance with audit requirements.
- Scripting or automation experience.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch and basic log analysis.
- AWS certification or equivalent cloud credentials.
- Experience with ITIL-based incident, change, and problem management processes.
- Experience using Agile tools to plan, track, and manage operational work.
- Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity and support scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Experience in FEDRAMP/GovRamp.
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational stability, efficiency and resilience over time.
- Previous experience working on a geographically dispersed team.
