The Role
Agilent is seeking a highly experienced global product strategy and innovation leader to help define the future of the laboratory and connect emerging customer, scientific, and technology developments around the world with our product and business strategies.
This individual contributor builds a five- to ten-year perspective, with particular attention to the United States, China, and broader Asian innovation ecosystems. As a recognized internal expert, you will lead high-impact, long-range initiatives, advise senior leadership, and independently address complex challenges across functions with limited support. You will translate global innovation and regional customer insight into actionable priorities for Agilent’s business and product groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a global view of the Lab of the Future. Assess changes in scientific workflows, laboratory operations, customer expectations, competitive dynamics, and technology adoption across geographies and applications. Identify innovations emerging in one market that could reshape laboratory practices worldwide.
- Establish systematic global innovation sensing through relationships with customers, researchers, start-ups, universities, technology companies, partners, and industry experts. Maintain visibility into the United States, China, broader Asia, Europe, and other strategic regions; identify developments warranting experimentation, partnership, investment, or product action.
- Partner closely with regional Agilent teams to understand emerging needs, competitors, technologies, and scientific workflows in China and Asia. Translate differences in adoption speed, customer behavior, workflow design, and competitive conditions for global product organizations, and identify opportunities to transfer innovation between regions.
- Evaluate how AI, machine learning, automation, robotics, and autonomous workflows could change experiment design, instrument operation, data analysis, workflow orchestration, troubleshooting, and service. Assess implications for instruments, software, interfaces, consumables, and services; connect technology choices to meaningful customer and business outcomes.
- Engage customers globally at the workflow and laboratory level. Identify barriers to productivity, connectivity, and automation that cross product boundaries; distinguish explicit customer requests from emerging needs and turn these observations into clear strategic opportunity areas.
- Create mechanisms that convert global signals into business-group action. Partner with product leaders on new product concepts, roadmap changes, customer experiments, technology investments, integration priorities, and partnerships. Track strategic opportunities from initial insight through business ownership and execution.
- Evaluate product and portfolio opportunities for customer value, strategic attractiveness, competitive differentiation, technical feasibility, and global scalability. Develop business cases and recommendations to build, partner, acquire, or invest; identify broader solutions combining Agilent’s instruments, software, automation, services, consumables, and data.
- Lead initiatives across regional organizations, global product teams, R&D, commercial teams, and senior leadership. Translate between cultural, geographic, and product perspectives to build alignment. Represent Agilent externally with customers, technology partners, researchers, and industry participants.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science, engineering, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. A PhD or equivalent advanced scientific training is strongly preferred; business, strategy, or commercial experience is highly desirable.
- Typically 8+ years of relevant combined experience across scientific research, product strategy, management consulting, product management, business development, commercialization, or related roles.
- Strong experience in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, analytical technologies, or laboratory technologies.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating new markets or technologies, translating them into strategic recommendations, and working across multiple geographies or global organizations.
- Experience engaging customers, scientists, technical organizations, and senior business leaders. Experience with emerging technology, AI, digital transformation, or automation is strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Scientific and technical fluency, strategic and analytical problem solving, and strong product and customer judgment.
- Ability to recognize significant technology shifts, distinguish structural change from hype, and synthesize developments across markets.
- Cross-cultural communication and relationship building; ability to translate regional context into decisions global product teams can act on.
- Executive communication and influence without direct authority, with comfort operating in ambiguity and across organizational boundaries.
- Willingness to travel internationally. Mandarin capability is advantageous for engagement with China’s innovation ecosystem but is not required.
