Position Summary

The Global Head of IDAR Strategy & Business Operations serves as a senior leadership partner to the VP, Integrated Data Analytics & Reporting (IDAR), acting as a strategic advisor, Chief of Staff, and leader of business operations.

This role is accountable for defining, enabling, and continuously optimizing IDAR’s operating model to ensure execution excellence across financial management, workforce strategy, vendor management, governance, and business operations.

The role plays a critical part in advancing IDAR’s strategic ambition by embedding AI-enabled operations, data-driven decision making, and scalable business processes across the function, while ensuring alignment to broader R&D priorities.

Scope & Organizational Remit·                     

Global remit across IDAR (~3,000 FTE; mix of internal and external resources)

Accountability for ~$500M annual budget (internal + external spend)

Leadership of a centralized Strategy & Business Operations organization, with direct reports and an extended network spanning:

  • Finance and budget management
  • Resource and capacity management
  • Vendor and sourcing operations
  • Business operations, reporting and portfolio support
  • Communications 
  • Compliance & Inspection Readiness
  •  Indirect influence across all IDAR functions (Data Management, Statistical Programming, Medical Writing, etc.)

Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

1. Strategy & Operating Model Leadership

  • Define and evolve IDAR’s operating model, including governance, organizational structures, and decision frameworks
  • Translate IDAR functional strategy into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes
  • Lead annual planning, goal setting, and prioritization processes across the function
  • Partner closely with the VP, IDAR to shape and operationalize strategic priorities

2. Business Operations & Execution Excellence

  • Lead centralized business operations to enable consistent, scalable execution across IDAR
  • Ensure excellence across:
    • Resource and capacity management
    • Budgeting and financial operations
    • Vendor and sourcing strategy
    • Compliance and inspection readiness
    • Portfolio and program-level support
  • Drive standardization, simplification, and continuous improvement of operational processes

3. Financial Strategy & Resource Management

  • Own end-to-end financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and tracking
  • Optimize allocation of internal and external resources aligned to priorities
  • Provide transparency into cost structures, productivity, and efficiency opportunities
  • Partner with Finance to enhance financial insights and reporting
  • Work closely with Capacity Management to ensure IDAR demand is accurately forecasted, continuously refined, and aligned with business needs.

4. AI-Enabled Business Operations & Analytics                    

  •  Drive the adoption of AI-enabled tools and automation within IDAR business operations (e.g., planning, reporting, workflow management)
  • Establish robust operational analytics, dashboards, and KPIs to support decision making
  • Improve efficiency and scalability through digitization and intelligent automation of core processes
  • Build internal capability to leverage AI in operational and management workflows

5. Talent Strategy & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Define and execute talent strategy for the IDAR operations ecosystem
  • Lead workforce planning, capability development, and succession planning
  • Build future-ready capabilities, including digital and AI fluency within business operations
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, agility, and continuous improvement
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for direct reports and the broader operations network

6. Stakeholder Management & Governance

  • Serve as a key interface for cross-functional partners, including Finance, HR, Procurement, Quality, GD & R&D Strategy & Operations
  • Drive effective governance through leadership team facilitation, decision frameworks, and performance tracking
  • Act as Chief of Staff to the VP, IDAR, including:       
    •  Leadership team agendas and effectiveness
    • Strategic communications and messaging
    • Translation of strategy into execution

7. Initiative Leadership & Communications

  • Lead initiatives impacting IDAR’s operating model and ways of working 
  • Develop and execute communication strategies that drive clarity, alignment, and engagement
  • Embed new ways of working, including AI-enabled operations and process simplification
  • Ensure alignment between strategy, culture, and execution

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MD, or equivalent) preferred
  • ~15+ years of experience in clinical development, operations, analytics, or related fields
  • Significant leadership experience in global, matrixed organizations
  • Strong understanding of clinical development and IDAR-related functions (data management, statistical programming, medical writing, etc.)
  • Proven experience managing large-scale budgets and global resource models
  • Demonstrated success in driving operational excellence and organizational transformation

The below list of compensation expectations and benefits are for the USA and will be adjusted according to market differences e.g. BE, CH & UK.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $173,000 to $299,000.

Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
