Position Overview:
This role is for an experienced Geospatial Engineer responsible for leading the design, integration, and modernization of enterprise geospatial solutions using ArcGIS Enterprise. The position blends GIS expertise with enterprise IT strategy, requiring hands-on technical leadership to deliver scalable, integrated solutions that support transportation data, analytics, and operational systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Transportation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent technical experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in transportation-focused GIS environments (e.g., DOT, engineering firm) designing and implementing solutions using ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Proven experience in enterprise system integration, including API development, data interoperability, and system orchestration
  • Advanced knowledge of the Esri software stack, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server, Datastore), ArcGIS Online, and integration tools such as FME, Python, .NET, JavaScript, and REST/SOAP APIs
  • Strong proficiency in spatial data modeling, enterprise geodatabase management (PostgreSQL, SQL Server), and geospatial analysis techniques
  • Demonstrated experience developing automated workflows using Python, ArcPy, and geoprocessing services
  • Experience integrating GIS with transportation-related systems such as traffic monitoring, asset management, and planning tools
  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and security principles related to spatial data integration
  • Knowledge of federal transportation reporting requirements and roadway inventory/asset management practices
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise GIS modernization or cloud architecture initiatives
  • Familiarity with transportation safety datasets, operations data, or traffic analytics platforms
  • Understanding of ITIL, Agile/Scrum, or enterprise project management methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences

Prefer, not required:

  • GISP (GIS Professional Certification) – URISA
  • Esri Technical Certifications (e.g., Enterprise System Design Associate/Professional, ArcGIS API Developer)
  • Agile/Scrum certification a plus
Duties:
  • Interpret transportation GIS mandates and translate them into technical requirements, workflows, and compliant data solutions
  • Design and document end-to-end geospatial architectures using ArcGIS Enterprise, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise systems
  • Develop scalable architecture frameworks, technical roadmaps, and reusable GIS service patterns aligned with enterprise standards
  • Lead GIS cloud migration efforts, including performance monitoring, optimization, and modernization initiatives
  • Build and maintain complex geospatial data models, geodatabases, and linear referencing system (LRS) datasets
  • Define and implement integration strategies using APIs, REST/SOAP services, message queues, and ETL/ELT processes
  • Develop APIs, middleware, and data pipelines to connect GIS platforms with ERP, asset management, traffic, and analytics systems
  • Leverage tools such as ArcGIS APIs, FME, Python, and webhooks to automate workflows and enable real-time and batch data exchange
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to ensure integrations meet compliance and security standards
  • Develop automated scripts, geoprocessing services, and QA tools using Python, SQL, and ModelBuilder
  • Lead technical design sessions, stakeholder workshops, and cross-functional collaboration with analysts, developers, and architects
  • Provide technical leadership across teams to ensure successful deployment and adoption of GIS solutions
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to GIS strategy, including real-time data integration, spatial data platforms, and AI/ML applications
  • Support enterprise GIS roadmap development, including governance, integration strategies, and system modernization planning
  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and pilot programs to advance transportation analytics and operational capabilities
  • Participate in hybrid/on-site work, including occasional after-hours support for maintenance or emergency response activities
